New Evo IX owner

Hi guys new EVO owner here... I picked up an 06 EVO IX se..man is she sweet. I really don't want to do much modding as the car kicks butt stock. I do have a question.

Is it neccessary to install a turbo timer on this car?

Thank you in advance, I have lots to read on this website!

It is not absolutely needed.

As long as you don't shut it down immediately after a hard run you will be fine.

Yeah, a turbo timer is not necessary. A stock evo is nice for a few weeks, but you will be begging for more in no time.

If you decide to mod your car, you have a great shop/tuner right down the street. CBRD is located in York,PA. Search about them and you will be impressed.

I'd get a turbo timer. Consider it a maintenance item. Sometimes you're in a hurry so having to wait a minute or two before you shut the car off can be inconvenient.

since you will need an alarm system, try to invest in one that has a remote start and it usually comes with a built in turbo timer. compustar comes into mind. congrats!

I may look into the alarm/remote start/turbo timer package. One thing I did notice and I need to research this, is the braking power seems a little weak and unstable for the amount of speed the car has. I think the first mod will be slotted rotors, cermaic pads? what are you thoughts.. sure this has been covered in the forum, please excuse my ignorance.

Awesome.. Thank You. This weekend will not really work for me. However I would like to stop down and chat. What are your hours?

My brother just got an 07 STI so I'm sure he would also like to tag along, (because we all know he will be behind my EVO

Turbo Timer - absolutely not necessary.
Idling for 1 minute every time you drive you car - also not necessary

Most people dont drive into a parking lot at full boost or get the turbo glowing red on the way to work.

+1 on visiting CBRD. I would get Chad to check the AFR on the STI right away. Subaru in their infinite wisdom set the fuel to run at cruise AFR in boost areas of the map on the 07's (not verified but I've heard this is the issue, I have an 06). A guy locally here blew his up with 1500 miles on it and Subaru tried to not warranty it. The rep said he was "drifting with low gas levels in the tank". I advised the owner to seek legal action.

get some stainless steel brake lines and dot4 brake fluid.

that'll help ALOT, then decide if you wanna go for more, the stock pads are really good

pads next, don't throw away your rotors
