N/A Intercooler?

I was wondering would it be ractical to put an intercooler on a N/A set-up. I mean i guess the function of an intercooler is to cool off the air comming into the engine b/c a turbo makes it so damn hot. But even w/o a turbo, i could probably see the advantages of having an intercooler. Just no forced induction. Let me know what people think, if i coulddo this. and then if you coul, would it yeild decent gains. Kinda mkes you think why no one asked this one before, or just maesme a dumass. alright guys peace.

I dont have ANY experience with turbo's and intercoolers, but I do have a hypothesis. I am guessing u wanna run the intake to the intercooler which then leads to the throttle body. If that's correct then I think maybe the air isnt gonna have enough "drive" to make it through the intercooler and up to the throttle body. My guess is ur gonna restrict the airflow more and whatever air makes it to the throttle body is gonna be "disturbed" by the many pipes and bends it has to go through. That's just my thinking, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Your assumption is correct.. Without forcing the air through an intercooler, it acts as a huge restriction, Anything to cool the air coming into the engine will increase its density.. However there is a compromise between intercooler size, and restriction due to the path it has to take, there is always a slight drop in intake pressure from before the intercooler and after, partly due to the restriction, and partly due to the density change.. However with nothing to force the air through an intercooler, it would actually hurt performance..

Try to breathe through a straw one day.. That would be like a normally aspirated engine trying to suck air through the intercooler.. If someone were to blow air through the straw, you would have a supply of air to breath in easier (Besides being sorta gross) Sorta like CPR ::GRIN::
