im no expert, but main differances between 8 and 9 i have an 8 by the way and love it. so yeah main differances are the 9 has MIVEC (mitsubishi inovative valve electronic control) i think thats it also ACD (active center differential) IMO you will be happy with either of them, so if price is the issue go for the cheaper, just make sure its a good running car with NO drivetrain problems IE clutch tranny tcase diff etc.

Good luck

The '05 Evo 8's came with ACD. And no it isn't a bad thing if it doesn't come with it.

If you don't plan on changing out the turbo and and go crazy modding then get a 05 or 06, if you plan on modding everything save the money get on 04 casue your gonna be switching out all the better parts from the 05 or 06 anyways. Mainly the turbos.

oh yeah don't get a 03 they have some TC/trans problems.

Also is you plan to drag race don't get the 6 speed the gearing isn't correct for the 1/4 mile. lots of people swap in 5 speed gears into there 6 speed box.

I hate when people say that 03s have TC troubles. I have an 03 and I have quite a bit of mods and an exedy twinHD my Tcase has not given me a problem to date. on top of the FOG who is a buddy of mine has an 03 that was making 475WHP for a while and is now making 630WHP on the stock 03 Tcase. So seems to be not so much of a big deal to me.

Just be wise and change the fluids out of the TC and tranny every other oil change and youll be fine

Thats a good deal IMO. I would drive it and make sure everything is fit. and like I said just keep up on the fluids and all will be fine. I drive my car pretty hard. I dont launch a ton but most of my launches are coming off of my 2 step and running a 400+HP car and my TC has not given me a bit of trouble. I wouldnt worry about it at all as long as your on the ball. im sure the 03 is alot less than the IX right? take the money and toss on a few go fast mods and youll be a very happy camper

Check socalevo.net and I bet you can find good deals there, when I was in the market that where I was shopping, and I live in vegas. Good luck on your find, but check out that site too.

The 9 is rated at having 10 more hp and tq, and the turbo is different too. I can't remember what it is that's different, I just know it is. The 9's don't have the intercooler spray though, which I kinda wish I had. I just like the way the 9 looks more than the 8 because I hate the way the emblem sticks out from the front on the 8. But both are awesome, whichever would be a fine choice.
