#1 mod for more power

you guys may hate me for this, but from your experience, what would be a good mod to start with to give my 02 oz lancer a little more power. hopefully within a tight budget. thanks

it's an automatic if that makes any difference.

I started out with most easiest thing to start with, a CAI, when I replaced all the stock crap with this, I noticed a big difference, but i'm not sure if the CAI fits on auto's or not

I have an automatic, too. The first thing i did, that costed me absolutely nothing, was tear out most of my air box, and there you go... A bootleg intake!Since we have that honeycomb filter-like thing in the back part of our airbox, nothing can get in. At least nothing all that harmful. People will probably be bashing me for this, but I've yet to have any problems as a result of this, and it does leave you with a noticible power gain. Not to mention it sounds nice as hell!!!

Nope, no filter! Just suckin in a lot of air. My best friend had an 89 RX-7 that didn't have a filter, and he drove it like that for a year and it never caused any problems, so I'm confident my Lancer will be ok

yeah, don't go doing what lillancerboy did, not having any filter on your car is one of the worst things you can do.. mine as well just rip off the MAS and run straight TB... since you are already ruining your engine.... one thing you can do that is rather cheap is search this site for home made SRI or CAI.. you can pretty much make your own intake for the car for under 30bucks... nice and cheap and works just as well as most of the 100+ kits... course you cant beat some of the pre-fab kits because they have the #s to back up what they did, but you should still notice an increase in power and the sound above 3k rmp is awesome!

EDIT: a CAI (unless home/shop fabricated) won't fit an auto lancer
the transmissions is too large to fit the piping... goto home
depot and get some 3" dryer venting piping and make your
own pipes for a CAI.. lots of people have done it!
