Buying a evo

I just recently made a thread wondering if I should sell my 350z or not for an Evo...well the decision was made. EVO it is.

Well I found a white (05) EVO for sale locally, and went and checked it out. I can't remember all what he said was done to it, but some type of cam, suspension, intake, hks exhaust and BOV, guages, boost controller and some other things I can't quite remember. 40k miles, asking price 24k. Good deal? I will try to officially have the exact parts listed tomorrow.

Now..what i want to know. What is the difference between all evo models? I've heard of EVO 8, Evo 9, and EVO mr. Can someone please list the differences in these, and what model would the one be I was looknig at (05).

I know it seems pretty dumb that I went and checked it out and am clueless about it but I only had time to stop and look at it for a minute. I am still a noob at evo's.

Picture of the evo.

(edit here are the exact mods
*INKEI WHEELS
*TEIN SUSPENNSION
*AFTERMARKET EXHAUST
*STUDDER BOX
*TURBO TIMER
*POD GUAGES
*BOV (LOUDEST IVE EVER HEARD)
*HKS CAM
*NEW RODS
*TURBO XS UTEC CONTROLLER
*1050CC INJECTORS
*AFTERMARKET DRIVESHAFT & AXLES
*STAGE 3 CLUTCH

Thanks

That is a Evo 8. Nice car but I would stay away from it. With that mileage and those mods this car was most likely driven hard majority of the times. If you can, find a stock Evo. I personally got me a MR but I would have bought a RS or SE in a heartbeat if the dealer had them when I went to buy mine. GL with yours.

Looks ok, but with the miles and the fact that it's modded makes me think the asking price is a tad high.

Basically the 05 is the latest year for the VIII, the IX is almost objectively better than the VIII, but pricier. MR models on both the VIII and IX have a few extra things, most importantly a 6-speed transmission.

the rs is base version no power windows, locks etc. also the lightest, the ix has pwr everthing and both the 9 and rs come with 5spd, the mr has upgraded suspension, lighter wheels, aluminum roof panel, some extra aero pieces; front lip, and gurney flap, last but not least it has a close ratio 6 spd hope that helps you some

Alright, thanks for all of the replies.

So im guessing 40k miles for a modded evo isn't such a good thing.

So, what would be a good price for this car exactly? And..how much faster is the IX than 8?

with the mods, ide check for the usual signs of an abused evo. inspect it good, dont let something obvious but horrible slip past you. but i think thad be more of a concern if he was asking cheap not 24K. Still this car isnt a grocery getter, its been "used", and what is an evo used for....

Okay, I found out the mods it has:

*INKEI WHEELS
*TEIN SUSPENNSION
*AFTERMARKET EXHAUST
*STUDDER BOX
*TURBO TIMER
*POD GUAGES
*BOV
*HKS CAM
*NEW RODS
*TURBO XS UTEC CONTROLLER
*1050CC INJECTORS
*AFTERMARKET DRIVESHAFT & AXLES
*STAGE 3 CLUTCH

40k miles, and a claimed 400ph to the crank...true?

the difference between the VII & the IX is that the IX has MIVEC (which is Mitsubishi's version of VTEC). in stock form, there's a 10hp difference between the two.

BTW.....i wouldn't buy one with that many performance mods & miles for that much.
and, when i do mod mine, i'm gonna get all upgraded performance parts that the EVO VIII MR FQ400 has.

I would NEVER even think about buying an Evo that has "studder box" listed as a "mod".
