Well, I would say if you just bought it, you could go back and try to get them to put a stock cat back on. But now since it's been awhile, they could just say that you removed it. Take it to the dealership and see what they say.

Bought my car at a Nissan dealership with all the mods in my profile minus the coilovers and the tune..... they thought everything was totally stock lol. They had no idea it didn't have a cat on it, so I told them, and haggled the price down $500 so I could go "have one put in because it's illegal" haha. Suckers

Let the buyer beware. You should have gotten an inspection before purchase. You can still try the dealership, but it is your word against theirs. Good luck.

Its against the federal law to sell a vehicle without a valid inspection OR a Cat, unless its specifically stated at the time of sale as for "off road use only". I just recently learned that when I got my IX from a person that had already deleated the Cat, however he did give me all the stock parts, so I could switch it back if I needed too.

good question....i woulda assumed it was perfectly legal...especially if you're state doesn't have emissions that would restrict an aftermarket cat/test pipe

What he said ^

It depends if its legal in your state. I actually recently was just at a shop hanging out with a few of my friends and a Highway patrol office showed up. With a warrant for information. A nearby shop apparently sold a modified car, with an insepction sticker and a test pipe in place of the cat.

Then the kid who bought that car, sold it and the current owner went to get it inspected, and failed becuase of it, then proceeded to file some sort of complaint, and now the police are searching to find out if the 1st owner, put the test pipe on, or if it was sold with it on.
Either way, someones going to get a pee pee slap for it.

You are entitled to make enemies for life if you hassle your dealer with this.

Is it noticeable? I dont have Cats but i chose not to. I actually have a friend who installs all my parts and all my friends suby parts at our local dealership. And he installed my test pipe cat delete....illegal...but only if the COP relaly wants to bend down and look under your car.
