Question Evo Vs STI
Question Evo Vs STI
Hey everyone i don't own an evo but i am considering on buying one im crossed between an evo and an sti i have used the search bar found some good information but i was wondering if i could get peoples personal opinions and facts about the pros and cons of each im planning on using the car i pick for a daily driver rain snow summer i leave over in new england. Another question i have is on the Evo's reliability and what goes wrong on it if theres anything i should look out for or expect to go wrong if anything? thank you for taking the time to read this and please give me your out look on the situation
Main difference is handling. Evo is much better. Turbo is bigger on evo, good for top end, stis will get a jump on you stock vs stock. STIs are very expensive to mod (but are cheaper to buy). STIs are a little more reliable to my eyes, my friends all have stis and havnt had much to deal with, i have had some issues but warrenty takes care of that. Warrenty, stis are that big of a warrenty, evos have mitsus and last 10 years or 100,000 miles. I love the evo sound and feel and look much better than sti, and girls do to from what ive heard. Go test drive both, see what you like. I am going to warn you most people wont take time to tell you this they will say go search, so hope this helped.

As far as how it does in the weather... That depends on what tires you have. I have all seasons and has done well in the summer, great in the rain and so-so in the snow. This will be the same as the STi though.
To be honest the STi will have a softer ride and probably be more comfortable as a DD since it has climate control and all the other creature comforts, but i guarantee its not near as fun when you go to the track or backroad twisties!
Thank you
both of you thank you for giving me great information and i will defintaly be taking what you have said into consideration if anyone else has any information they would like to offer up that would be greatly appreciated
ps thank you for not telling me to use the search bar

if u want a DD go with the the STi. it is a softer ride (not by much though) and way safer!!! if u want a DD that u can go to the tracks/twisties and cheap to mod get the evo. also the evo has more room in the back for your friends/parents/kids/etc. than the STi. i personally think u should go with the evo because they are some much more fun and the engine is easier to understand and bulletproof!!!
My friend has an 07 sti and I have an evo and the evo feels alot lighter on the street and the steering is razor sharp compared to the subaru. The seats are way better as well and anyone that tells you an sti's interior is nicer is insane gauge cluster maybe but thats about it interior wise. The top end on an evo is much better as well it pulls all the way up the sti kinda just dies around 6 grand. I daily drive my evo and have no complaints what so ever and have had no problems just maintain it and you'll be fine.

You're on an evo forum, of course people here are going to tell you to get the evo. I would suggest you just drive both and then decide which is right for you.
As far as modding goes, the gap is quickly being lessened. Yes you can make good power on an evo with just bolt-ons, but if you want big power, you'll pay about the same on both cars. Some of the vendors on here also deal with STIs and they really seem to like them (AMS and Buschur are two examples).

it will also depends what body style you like, and you gain more hp with mod on the evo..and it is expensive to make an sti fast,my buddy got one but now he saling it cause he said it cost to much to make it fast and he's tired of it and he had it for about two years.and the interior of the evo look cheaper than the sti..so i guess just depends on what you want are expect out of a car.so just go see and which one you feel better in,but good luck with the search
yeah i looked at both i recently got my evo and i test drove both and i will say it seems the evo is more for the speed enthusiast its trimmed down there is nothing to it really but speed and things to make it speedier.
the sti on the other hand is still a great car and the sound mean as hell but with the same amount of money thrown at them the evo wins most of the time.
it all comes down to personal preference but i enjoy my evo on a daily basis because of how tight the handling/steering is and yeah its fast and all and cheap to work on but i dunno something about pretty much 0 understeer is nice. i came from a muscle car so it grabbed my ***** right away

The SEARCH feature works pretty well. But that aside...
ENGINE: Both are powerful from the factory, but the STI pulls harder from lower revs due to its greater displacement but has a weaker top end, while the Evo has a stronger top end. As a result, straight-line acceleration tends to be pretty even, depending more on the drivers. The STI definitely sounds better though, with its boxer rumble.
TRANSMISSION: The STI shifter felt a little vague to me, but the transmission is very durable and can withstand much more abuse when it comes to aggressive driving (including launches). Both Evo transmissions feel better than the STI, but both are more susceptible to damage under aggressive driving. But if it's mostly daily driven, it won't be a big deal.
HANDLING: Both handle pretty well in general, but the Evo's steering is quicker and more precise. The STI has a tiny bit more body roll and understeers more as well.
BRAKING: Pretty even, as they both use Brembos that are similar in size, though typically the Evos tend to have shorter stopping distances by a very small amount from what magazine tests indicate.
PRACTICALITY: The Evo is slightly roomier, particularly the backseat, though the STI has a few more standard conveniences (cruise control, climate control, outside temperature gauge, 6-CD changer after 2004)
RIDE: The STI's ride is more comfortable. The Evo MR has the softer Bilstein suspension that helps a little bit, but it's still stiff. However, the Evo's seats are grippier and hold you in place better than the STI's seats.
FUEL CONSUMPTION: Neither are gas-sippers, but the Evo seems to be easier on gas in daily driving, in my opinion. I remember I drove my friend's stock 2004 STi (except for springs) from Vegas back to Orange County and got around 21 mpg at best, and that was with relatively conservative highway driving. An Evo driven that same way in those conditions probably would've gotten 23-24 mpg.
MODABILITY: The Evo makes more power MUCH more easily and with fewer mods.
PRICE: Unless you want an MR for some reason, any other Evo is going to be less expensive than an STI, though their market values may alter once the new Evo X and STI are released.

He did search, the "search" function on EvoM works about as well as Yahoo's beta release in the 90s...
"Evo vs Sti" yields: ***** ***** *****
Anyway, reallly honestly for a dd you don't plan on modding much, go with what feels good driving and what looks good to your eyes. If you won't wake up and say "damn I love my ___" every morning, you shouldn't buy it. At least that's the moto I live by. When I'm having a bad day it isn't my dog or my mom or my girlfriend that makes me happiest, its opening the garage door and seeing my car there, whether it was the S2k, the Evo, or the Porsche, they all had that effect.

I never driven an sti till resently and after owning the evo for a few months im glad i picked the evo but everyone has there own opinions about either. I happen to like both but perfer to have an evo. The sti has a little bit softer ride but not really all that noticable. The evo handles in my opinion alot better than the sti. The sti feels more like a front wheel drive car with all the oversteer the evo has close to none. the steering is also alot more reactive in the evo and feels better to control but like everyone else test drive them both and see what one you like better. Btw what part of CT are you in
My buddy has an o7 sti, with exhaust and cobb launch. Its a pretty sic car, but hes had problems with it. You can flash an sti ecu and you won't void the warranty, and their customer service is awsome, so he says. The Evo is alittle bit faster, but the boxer sound of the sti is better i think.
