Will I ever get an Evo?

Hello, as you can probably already tell by my post counter, I'm fairly new, . I have a couple of questions for you Evo owners.

1. Where did you locate your Evo when you bought it?
2. How much did you pay?
3. Was it stock?
4. What is the best Evo version/year?
5. Living in Montana, like I do, what are my chances of ever owning one, without going out of state to buy it??

#5 is my main question but I've also been curious what other people are getting for their money.

Right now I own a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally, stock. it has 57k miles on it, and I got it for $6,000 @ 55k Miles. Just a couple months ago.

I'm diggin' the AWD of the Evo's and thats another question I had on hand.

6. Does the AWD suck up a lot of gas? or is it fairly normal?
7. With the turbo, does it suck the gas when in use, too?
...

I'd appreciate detailed answers, I'll keep browsing the forums to see if I can answer my own questions. Thanks in advance!!!

1. Where did you locate your Evo when you bought it?
At the time I was in Miami Florida and the only one I could find was in Statesborro Georgia at a Carmax dealership. So I paid carmax like $200 and they shipped it down to me. If there is a Carmax near you, you can order a car that they have at any of their dealerships right to the one in your town.

2. How much did you pay?
Mine was a Silver Evo 8 with 15,000 miles. I paid $25,000 for it this time last year
3. Was it stock?
More or less. It had a boost controller and a fuel pump.
4. What is the best Evo version/year?
I would say the '06 Evo 9 is the best year. Runner up would be the '05. The '03 and '04 are more or less the same.

And because I know your going to ask the MAIN differences are:
'03 AND '04 Have about 271 hp and 273 tq (give or take).
'05 Is virtually the same car accept they come with a 10.5 hotside on the turbo and a new ACD type center differential with three driving settings: Tarmac, Gravel and Snow. This model also has 276hp and about the same in tq.
'06 Model also now comes with MIVEC along with a few other add ons. This one comes with 286 hp and give or take with tq too. This is the best model because everyone with a 9 seems to have 30 more wheel horsepower than the other models with the same amount of mods.

Here is a link I made last year with more detail. This will probably answer all of your basic questions.

5. Living in Montana, like I do, what are my chances of ever owning one, without going out of state to buy it?? Just go out of state. Its worth it to find the one you want.

Good luck,

Tyler

i was lucky to buy the one in the showroom...............mine was brand new with 3 miles on it. I paid 33K brand new up front.

The AWD doesent really affect gas as much as the 16G turbo that comes on it that is building 20PSI out the gate. The IX is the best IMO though since it has some extra stuff with bigger hotside and the MIVEC of course.

But with some of my friends that have bought one you just gotta search other dealerships across the states to see who has one. usually CA has alot of them. if they do you can have it shipped to your dealership for a small fee. If you really want one then you will get one. You gotta really want.

let me tell ya though, expect bad gas mileage...........its the price that comes with a fast car. as you mod and add power the mileage gets even lower. Its a small price to pay for a bad azz car.

good luck and hope you find one.

Wow, great information. I've never even heard of a carmax, Tyler.

I'll have to browse the internet, any quick sites that I can search in to see what my options are?

I'm very interested in one, but I'm looking at staying under 25k, hopefully.

A difficult summary, I know, but I think I can make it happen. I need to sell my honda, for like $1k get me started on saving!

How much a month do you guys pay for the car + insurance?

Right now, I'm paying almost 400$ a month insurance/payment on my 03 OZ Rally.

Got my 03 Evo in Clearwater Fl at a Kia dealer with 11,991 miles and bone stock. I walked out the door paying only $21,995 for it almost 3 years ago at that when they were selling for $28k

I dont need to repeat everyone else bout th IX. I also almost used carmax to get an Evo but they didnt want to work with me at all so I walked and ended up saving myself about $5k because of it.

Being that your in MT and they no longer sell Evos new I would say go out of state for sure. Have it shipped or drive one home they will make it a long road trip I have driven mine from FL to MA 4 times 1500 miles round trip and all straight threw too

my payment for the Car is $360 a month and my payment for my insurance is like $90 a month

Holy Bejeezus.

That's all I have to say.

I guess I'll have to go out of state to find one, there was one local here, but I don't think it's worth the money based off of the milage.

It's got 62k miles, and he is asking 25k. Stock.

What do you guys think about that?

Payments not too bad, insurance that's wicked! I pay 145 insurance, and 250 for the loan payment.

The search goes on....

Might not be his credit, also based on how much he put down and the length of his loan. I have great credit 770 but only did a 3 year loan so my payments are 420/month since I did not put much down.
