well you can change boost via ECU using your stock solenoid........but when you start tuning and gettin more mods a boost controller and be a good mod. Say you roll down the road and somehow you are spiking 12.2 afr's then you can easily get out and turn down the boost until you can log on the ecu and figure out whats going on. Also a MBC can hold boost a little better than stock.

all in all its good to know you can control the boost without having to log the ECU. never know when you might need to lower it.

Does your Evo already have a boost gauge? If not, then consider that as a required basic mod. Also, once you do the mods which you have listed you'll need a tune(flash).

Not all Evos arrive from the factory with the boost level set the same. Some guys have reported that their new Evos are only boosting 14 PSI, others report 19 PSI or 21 PSI. It varies. So, you may need to adjust your particular car's existing boost level up or down.

There are several ways to control boost. You can either get a manual boost controller(MBC) or an electronic boost controller(EBC). Another option, is to have the factory ECU control boost through a modified stock boost control system.
