How Much Boost??

I just bought a 2003 Evo VIII with 58000 miles on it. It has hks Carbon-TI cat back, helix test pipe, dc sports manifold, 10.5 hot side, 255 walboro fuel pump, hks evc boost controller, hks downpipe, arp head studs, hks gd max clutch twin plate, hks ssqv BOV w/pipe,hks reloaded race intake, zeitronix zt-2 wide band, hks 280 race cams, 4 inch intercoole and i run on 93 octane. I was just wondering what the max boost the stock cool side of the evo 8 turbo would handle for my app. thanks mike ( I am running 19 psi low and 22-23 high boost)

run your boost to what the car was tuned for. Get rid off that bov.

on pump gas your car should be tuned for 20lbs of boost to make it safe.

sorta right...

03/04: 19 taper to 16.24
05: 20.31 taper to 17.40
06: 20.16 taper to 16.09

per Mitsubishi spec sheets.

But, psi all depends on the tune. Turbo efficiency is something completely different.

Search VTA, BOV, HQSS...its crap on MAF equip. cars (aka Evo).

Ok I know that BOV is kinda crappy on my car but I just ordered a recirculation kit from lancer shop. It should be here in a couple days. Do you think that will help any?? Or if not what is a good BOV to run on the Evo 8??
Thanks for the help,
mike
P.S. I am looking into a tuning shop about 1.5 hours away from me so it will be getting dyno tuned soon.

This is just something I heard from an 04 evo 8 owner. I don't konw if he is bright about evo's or not but from what you all are saying it seems like he isn't. I've heard that stock evos without some sort of tuning application such as SAFC and such (to hide boost from ecu i think) can only run 18psi (19psi hits fuel cut). and after 21 psi the stock turbo is just blowing hot air. Please tell me if he's wrong because after reading all this I am thinkin he is. Or is that true for a stock evo with just a boost controller.

Honestly this is my first evo and i know the ecu has been reflashed so i dont know the answer to your quest. but i am pretty sure a stock evo runs at least 19psi I know i peak 23.7psi sometimes and i think it runs fine. I am sure if you search the forum a little you can find the answer your looking for.

Yeah, in the faq thread they say that it runs about 19 and tapers off to like 16 at redling on a stock evo. I know though with a re-flash you can get rid of fuel cut. How's that re-flash? Did you pass emissions with it?
