It's MOTOREX, not Motor X.

I'm not sure if they were scamming, but there was a lot of falsified paperwork on their part. I heard something about only the R33s having been officially certified here, while they fudged the paperwork to make the certification fly for the R32s and R34s. I don't know the details of it, but needless to say, they are no longer in business.

What about the kit car approach? Not sure if this still works or not (or in which states.) Before shipping the car, have them remove the engine and ship that to you seperately. Once the car is in your possession, reinstall the engine then register it as a kit car.

Do you want it to be street legal? If you are then its going to be tough and not worth your resources to get it here.

If you want to make it a race car that will be a piece of cake. I heard that you can also get driving allowances 8k miles per year of "street" driving.

I have a contact for you PM if interested

I am not doing it because I think it will be cheaper. I love the the older Evos. I know that it will cost me money to get the car imported. The crash testing would only be necessary if I was the first person to import, or if it is not close enough to the Mirage spec.

I am currently contacting a Registered Importer to see if any of them have any experience importing Evolutions and what the expected costs are. I will post as soon as I find out.

Wow, this has been debated a hunderd times. Like stated above you will have to supply extra cars for the government to crash in order for them to legalize your car. This is a fact and it will cost you so much $$ and trouble it's not worth it. So If you want to spend $15K x2 or x3 then go for it in order to own an older car. I would just save yourself the trouble and buy an Evo IX.

well, if the shell is the same as the mirage, then the cars should be similar enough that the crash test would not be necessary because the mirage already has been tested in the US. Like I said, I am currently contacting a registered importer to see what they think, since they are the ones that you have to go through to get the car certified.

^that's a great idea actually...

here in Trinidad we call that "CKD"

complete knock down...

they scrap the vehicle in Japan into parts...I mean everything....then label each part...and assemble it back when it lands here as a CKD or as you all would say in the USA..a kit car

Even if you do get one over here and registered, what are you going to do for insurance? Claim it's a Mirage? I hope not cause you won't get **** for it if any thing happens.

IMO, just get a Evo VIII or IX, and if you really want to be JDM get a Evo VII front end conversion.

I already contacted my insurance company about coverage. It would cost me $360 every six months for FULL coverage. Only $60 more than my 98 cavalier would be, and 1/3 the cost of insuring a brand new Evo. And that is with an actual vin number from a real car.

So your insurance company quoted you based on the VIN # from a real Evo I-VI? How is that possible?

I was searching the ebay.au (austrailia site) and found an Evo VI listed with a vin number. All modern vin numbers are global. So progressive used it to determine the cost to repair. Since the model does not have a history in the US, they only charge typical rates.
