Importing an Evo From Japan
The Evo 7 is almost exactly the same as the 8. The Evo 4/5/6 are all basically the same generation of car, with minor changes in between. And yes, I would have to own the WRC car to be technical. But in the end I was hoping there was someone on the forum that had purchased a non US sold Evo. Since there isn't, or atleast no one is replying, I am going to have to wait for information from a registered importer.
Thanks everyone for the information and comments.

I remember there was an importer around about 4 or 5 years back (not motorex) who was selling evo VI and evo VIIs. I remember the Evo VII was around $30k used so it wasnt worth it at the time because you could get an 03 evo VIII for around that price new. Perhaps the prices on the imported models have come down?
I dont know if anyone else has posted this, but there is a site currently importing Evo I, and II. Its called www.importconcern.ca. I was talking with the owner to try to get a Skyline GTR R32. Believe me it is not worth it. It would have cost, nearly 2x more than what i paid for it to make it US legal. If its not US legal and not approved by the correct government agencies, they will take it and most likely crush it. I talked directly to a customs agent. It has to be approved by the DOT, NHTSA, your city, state, etc. Trust me look for something already legal here. It is not fun to try to get it legalized here.

^ Getting an Evo over here is definitely easier than a Skyline, but it's still not worth the trouble, unless you just have that much money and really really want an older one. Besides, the funny thing is that I've seen more Skyline GT-Rs on the street than I have seen non-U.S. Evos (before the VIIIs).
I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that getting an evo here to the US is easier than a skyline. The evo is based on a platform that was available in the US. Back when motorex was selling R34s and whatever an evo was like 1/4 the cost of a skyline (legally in the US).
I do not know that it is easier or not, I know that it is very difficult to get a car from Japan to Canada to America. I talked directly to the owner of that website (Dominic). He said his business would be 4 times as big as it is now if he could sell to the US, but he will not touch any cars that he gets to try to make them US legal. Whether it be a Skyline, Evo, or even a 300zx. Each car that comes over has to be 100% US legal and approved by the government with the right paperwork in order to register it in the states. If it is not 100% they crush the car. It is the same amount of work/headaches to get a car leagalized here after importing it from Japan to Canada to America. Just stupid yankee laws that make our lives more complicated.
i you are going to go through the trouble just get a skyline.... trust me.. if you want an evo just buy an american one.... or at the very least buy one already imported
