Turbo-back exhaust options: fitament, quality, and reliability
I'm looking into turbo-back exhaust options for an Evo IX, and I've done a lot of reading on this site as far as the different available systems but I've found it more difficult to find info on the aspects I'm more looking for.
Mainly I am interested in a turbo back exhaust setup that fits without any modification to the OEM equipment, uses a decent catalytic converter (using a test pipe is not an option for me), can utilize the stock O2 sensors without throwing CELs, has a sizable resonator and muffler to keep the noise down, looks clean from the rear and has an OEM-like tip.
I basically want something as stock as possible in fit, finish, and functionality, and I need to be able to bolt it on and off quickly and easily enough for smog checks, no welding, cutting, or modification of OEM stuff.
I've had some pretty bad experiences in the past on other cars with poor exhaust systems either not fitting right, rattling on random stuff, aftermarket cat internals breaking apart, poor flanges that snap the pipe during engine flex, welding and cutting stuff so that putting the OEM system back is sketchy at best, and getting CEL's popping up at random times. It's just not something I'm willing to deal with now on this car, I'm getting too old to go wrench on my car every week because of some stupid BS caused by some aftermarket part that wasn't designed well enough to match the quality of the OEM part.
I'm sure there are some of you that can appreciate an OEM-like quality system, and that's really what I'm looking for on this car (except in 3" diameter which the OEM system obviously does not provide
). Any help and opinions are appreciated.
