Advise on a IX

Well today my search continues,I looked at a 06 ix white. It had 3 Defi gauges on top of dash,I found a boost controller under hood(Forge)and it had a what looked like a Greddy ti exhaust. The service engine soon light was on also.Oil was full but dirty. It still had the stock air filter box.Car had 38k I am heading back tomorrow to drive the car,it was blocked in by 4 cars and I was getting soaked outside. The service engine soon light is the same as the check engine light or is it a maintenance reminder ?

the oil is the most concerning thing... sounds as if it hasnt been maintained very well i would advise moving on with your search.

Besides the difference in power and Im guessing turbo lag due to mivec,is there a big difference between a VIII and IX ??.Did the 8 have more issues with the trans ?What about handling or suspension items ?
Thanks for the responses.

Hey bro, I'm in the same situation. I've been carless for about a month now, but I'm not settling for any evo that comes around. Be patient, the right car will find you. It's tough to wait, but you don't want to spend that much money and not find the right one.

I honestly think impatience lends itself to this type of car. So fight the urge, and make the right decision! At least this is what I tell myself every day... Waiting sucks.

I have drove a 8 and a 9, and the 9 seems to handle better for me. But with the tranny i havnt heard of any big problem difference's. When looking into buying a evo, talk with the dealer or private owner, and try to find as much as u can about the car. If the oil is dirty, chances are it wasnt well maintained, and if it wasnt well maintained it was probably beat. But best of luck with your search! And post pictures with the car you chosoe!

I looked at a red o3 VIII and it was cleaner than the 06 IX I looked at Sunday. The VIII had 66k miles but bone stock.I looked at a lot of bolts to see if they had toolmarks from being removed then put back to stock. The mil was not on either.Oil was clean in the VIII.I was lookingat the vin tags and on the front only the doors had the vin tag.

Welcome to EvoM!!!

Check out this thread...lot's of good information about the differences between VIII and IX. And, a bunch of other helpful information for someone new to the Evo scene.

Overall, the IX is better than the VIII. It comes with more power from the factory and responds better to mods than the VIII. But, they are both great cars

Also, stay away from the car. Like the other guys have said, from your description it doesn't sound like the car was well maintained and has likely been beat on pretty hard by the previous owner. Evos with modded engines, exhausts or intakes are a big crapshoot and my personal opinion is that it's not worth it to buy one of them when there are a few IXs out there that don't have never had any engine, exhaust or intake mods done to them. They are rare, but if you look hard enough, you'll find one. But, just your luck, they won't be local and you would likely have to travel to pick it up.
