I appreciate everyone's tips/advice. Due to circumstances at the time, I didn't have a choice but to take it to the dealership. It wasn't for aftermarket work either (transfer case).
Not to sound arrogant or that I'm telling anyone to screw off, but I've never had any question as to whether or not I could do them myself. I work on stuff like this everyday for the Navy. I've also been working on my own car since high school. I have never once paid for an oil change. I understand that it's a 30k car. I'm reminded of this once a month. I have been researching how to do them for the last 6 months that I've been on deployment.
I've done all the aftermarket work to my car thus far, and I would have swapped out my own tcase, except I didn't have the place/tools to do so myself. I take an amount of pride knowing that I do this stuff myself. Kinda like wiping my own ***.
If I screw it up, I'll humbly let you know.

i dont have any problem with someone trying to do this themselves. i saw this awesome video that was on streetfire.net i think... anyways ill try to find it and post up a link. it shows step by step process. imo it doesnt look hard and as long as you follow the steps you should be fine. its installing cams not machine work so i dont know why everyone thinks it is impossible or that people are not smart enough not to mess up.

I no oil changes and swapping cams are way different. I was just trying to emphasize that I've been working on my own car since I was 14, not trying to compare the two. We do have hobby shops. There are actually 3 or 4 that I know of around here.
1993blackz28 - I actually have the link to that video (the one with the yellow 8), so you don't need to find it. Thank you though!

If you take it to a hobby shop to do the cams, the guys who work there are normally certified mechanics so if you run into problems they can give you a hand.

lol thats proabably a good thing i was having difficulties for some reason trying to find that vid. well good luck with whatever route you choose im sure you wont be dissapointed with new cams.
i did my own cams myself on my evo about last year and have no problems just make sure EVERYTHING goes back in the same exact spot it came out off and put the journals back in the same direction its very important timming would proble be the only hard part about doing cams if you **** it up, trq everything to spec. oh yeah and the bolts that attach from the cam gear to the cam is the biggest son of a ***** to get out (breaker bar ftw)
Just make sure you have the Tensioner Tool! Makes life a 1000X easier! Best thing is to just go to a place that specializes in screws, bolts and fasteners (Fastenall is a great company if you have one nearby) and get a peice of M8x1.25 all-thread rod and 2 bolts, and cut it down to about 18", should only cost about $15 and is alot cheaper that the tool that Mitsu sells! Well worth the money!
As I promised.

Watch it a few times, take notes, it will help with your confidence in doing it.
It's Scott Gray from RRE by the way.

If you dont have fastenall, what me and my friends did was just get a piece of I think it was 7/16" blanc all thread and then a M8x1.25 thread chaser and chased the threads onto that, you need about 3" of thread on one end, and 1" on the other. Just go to Lowes and get a one that is just a tiny bit bigger than the M8 nuts, and a thread chaser that is M8x1.25. Then just cut the rod in half and chase the threads on!
