Not up and running again. Had to order a headgasket and manifold gaskets which will be here tomorrow, but I have duty so hopefully the day after weather permitting. I do have ARP studs which are going in.

I learned that the stock bolts are torque to yield (I had heard that before, but didn't really know what it meant) and they are not supposed to be reused. Which makes perfect sense after the fact.

If you decide to bleed the lifters this is a good vid telling you how:

Other than that good luck. Let us know how it works out.

After a turn or so it didn't feel like it was tightening and then by the time I could say to myself something wasn't right it snapped. So I pulled the head and luckily got the bolt out no problem. Now I'm just waiting on gaskets to get here. Here's some pics.

The pics of the head and cylinders was for someone to chime in about the coloring, and if there's some way to clean it and any other suggestions while the car is apart. It's had crap gas back home and some octane booster for the last 6 months while I was on deployment. I'm assuming that is part of the reason for the orange coloring.

GO GO Gadget flamesuit!!! Equip I told you so shield; Level up humility . . .
It looks like you need to change your plugs. Just thought I would mention it.

Yeah I have new plugs. That crap looks horrible. I got it cleaned up pretty nicely though. I get my gaskets today and should have it back together tomorrow. I'm on duty today and I'm going to do some other things while the car is apart. Nice weather FTW!

KeithD - I did bleed the lifters. Thanks for the video. It is really easy. Whether or not it's required, it only took maybe 15 minutes to do all of them. I did find if you pumped slower than what he was doing in the video that more oil came out per pump. Everything about the cam install portion of this ordeal was a lot easier than I was expecting.

I don't even think it was that good. I run V-power every chance I get. It'll be awhile before I drive my car cross country again. I no sh*t had to get gas out of an old pump that had the nozzles on the side and the analog numbers that turned. I didn't know those things still existed.

also since your installing a headgasket. I've heard its good to spray the headgasket before the install with copper spray.
