Few Questions ::newbie::

hey guys im planing on getting a evo 9 or 8 i am coming out of a is300 and i have a few questions,I know a few things about bolt-ons but im not to sure about turbo cars, I tried searching for about 2 hours and came up with a few things but it did not solve all my questions, so here are my questions..

1.what intake gives you the most hp/tq without causing the idle surges
2.what exhaust/downpipe gives you the best hq/tq
3.can i get the evo tuned with out having a piggy back? or should i just get a re flash? and how does that work?
4.how much psi can a stock turbo and block hold with bolt-ons?
5. i also heard that the stock evo 6 speed has alot of problems and i should get the 5 speed is that true?

thank you for your time guys.. i dont want to rush into this and not know anything

All these questions have been answered many times. How much much research have you done?

1.) just get a big cone filter w/ maf adapter
2.) any 3" full ss tbe with no cat
3.) no need for piggy back. download ecu flash onto ur laptop or go to a dyno
4.) 25 psi about. i run that year round.
5.) i have a 5 speed evo 8, syncros always go bad so u grind gears then take it to the dealer for them to warranty it. once they have been replaced u r golden

stock boost for an evo 8 is 18psi. I know when i first got the car and heard that i said "are you serious!!!" with a good tune you can easily run 23-24. I will soon be tuning mine and getting a cobb tbe. it s spendy but its quiet and i love quiet. Good luck with your decision

25 psi is ok as long as u have the tune and proper amount of fuel to support it. i suggest getting a turbo back exhaust, intake, bov, and fuel pump. then get it tuned with 93 octane and u should be able to run 25 psi like myself with only 1-2 counts of knock sparaticly. very safe. these are the cheapest and best starting mods on any evo. will greatly increase power from stock. fuel pump takes 10 minutes to install, it is below ur rear seat.

WOW 18psi thats insane i would think it would be around 8, so i can do my mods ( intake/downpipe/exhaust/boost controler/ fuel pump ) and just take it and get it tuned with out a management system.. NICE!! .. but i tought we cant use bov's on the evo because it should be recirculating ?

get yourself a forge dual bov. it recirculates and vta. it also allowas you to adjust just how much air you vta. but if you have you stock dv and put on a cone filter instead of the air box you hear the swoosh.

so it seems like i should just get the intake and still be safe.. from the research i did it said the stock bovs for the 8 leaks at high boost so i should just get a forge dual bov then ..right?

yes the plastic dv have a tendancy to leak, but im not sure at what psi. there are other ways to go. some companies make metal dvs and some people go with a ix dv cause they are metal as well. just depands on how much you want to spend. the forge i believe is around 300.

If you get a IX, there is NO need to get a aftermarket bov, the stock dv is great. But yeah, you got most of your questions awnsered, so ill be on my way.. if you have any more, feel free to private message me.

Goodluck on your purchase.
