Oil Change Mess Up on EVO VIII
Oil Change Mess Up on EVO VIII
Hey Guys, i messed up while changing oil in my car and was wondering if any one could help out with any suggestions.
So the part that went successfull.
1. Removed the oil and changed the filter
Now can you belive it i messed up while pouring oil in. So when i put the funnel in, it had some detachable parts which got loose and dropped in.
I was wondering what should i do now.
Should i take it to the dealer, to some other place or just pour the oil in and pray.
Thanks

how small were the peices?, can u see it?, maybe be able to grab it with a mechanical finger type tool..., or take your valve cover off and retreive the thing...good luck.
Obviously if you send it to the dealer, make sure they don't start it. You might be able to get the parts out with a magnet if they were metal. Otherwise take off the valve cover and get them out. Mechanical fingers might work if you can see what fell in there.

I was able to see a small part once, when i tried to remove it it moved and cannot see it any more.
I have been removing bolts left and right to remove the valve cover. If any one has links to any posts that describe how to take it off that will be great.
Thanks

My 0.02!
1. Do not start the car for any reason.
2. Pull the valve cover and look underneath the cams, lifters, etc.
3. Use some clean rags to suck the oil in the head surface.
I would not start the engine until I find the part! BTW... the part is metallic, plastic or wood? If it is metallic non Stainless Steel... I would get a flexible magnet to see if it can be picked up from the head.
Good luck!

Pull the valve cover. Undo the bolts then with a screw driver light pry it a bit on the corner to undo the adhesive then jsut pull with your hands and get those parts out!

I am getting some help later in the day to see if we can remove the valve cover.
I wanted to get input on the valve cover gaskets, i went to local pep boys, autozonez etc to find one and they dont have any in stock. I was wondering if there is any place in the north bay that any one would suggest to buy the valve cover gasket or i have also been told that it might just be silicone?
Any suggestions.
arround the vams it is silicone and the rest is a rubber gasket, you will be fine using the same gasket. this is a link showing how to change cams and it goes over the removal of the valve cover.

hope this helps, in the end he shows how to reinstall the cover, all you have to do is this in revirse. Good luck
