2k5 evo for 16k...with one problem
I've been a long time lurker on these forums, and it looks like I may join the ranks of all the evo owners here soon. This weekend I will be looking at a black 2005 evo VIII. The pictures make the car look fine, but the only thing is that the car has 84,000 miles on it already. Provided the car runs fine, and I have an independent mechanic give me the ok on the car, should I buy it? Or is the high mileage too much to worry about when buying a car for this price?
cant go wrong for the price really if your intent is to build a beast. Wouldnt reccomend buying it as a daily driver, or any car really with that many miles...except a civic or corrolla or similiar. Make sure you run a compression test on it, and check the fluids. Also carfax and service history. take it for a good test drive as well to check the clutch, transmission, engine operation, etc.

I wouldn't worry about high milage. its more of how the person took care of the car. Chances are alot of those miles are highway miles and don't do alot for wear and tear on a car.
You may be getting one heck of a deal. As long as the car hasn't been in an accident, do a car fax for sure.

Did a carfax, and found no accidents. Only 1 owner, and it looks like it had factory maintanence done on it every 10,000 miles up to 60,000 miles. When I test drive it saturday, I plan on seeing if there were any more recent receipts for maintanence that may not have shown up on carfax. Should I be concerned that this is a dealer trying to sell the car?

If its a dealer then you may want to just strait out and ask them why its being sold below blue book value. It never hurts. Just make sure you have the asking price down so they can't change it on you.
Maybe someone had a typo somewhere or something and you got lucky.

Bring a compression checker with you when you go to check it out. Check all of the fluids, be sure you know what to look for as far as color ect. I wouldnt fear the high miles, cars are meant to be driven.

I agree, the miles shouldn't scare you. What are your plans for the car? If you plan on building it you have just saved yourself the depreciation of buying a new one or an over inflated used one. I would jump on it! If you don't where is the car? LOL I might have to come take a look!
