tranny?

hey in new to the forum and to the evo world. I currently have a 350z 6mt . I have always loved the evo and lately ive been really having the urge to get rid of the 350 and get myself into an evo. Now all I have ever heard about evos is how the tranny is garbage. Is true or are this just bad information.

I have built the 350Z transmission and it's much nicer and a lot stronger and shouldn't give you any trouble for a long time. The only weak point on the Z transmission is how they braze the engagement ring to the 4th gear but you shouldn't break it loose if you don't use a clutch that holds over 700ft.lbs of torque or trying to bark the tires in those gears.

He wasnt talking about the 350z trans. He wants to know about evo trans

A trans will treat you how you treat it. If you beat it, its gonna beat a whole in your pockect. Thats the bottom line, so if you treat it good, and dont beat it, it will last.

I think your refering to the transmissions used in the 03 evos. From what I have heard, it was just a batch of them that got put in those cars(only in 2003) that werent as strong as the others. Yes, they did have problems. BY 04, they were fixed. Couldnt tell you what it was in 'em (synchros or what), but there was a TSB/recall put out. Hope this helps

I feel transmission life is all in how you treat it. I have an 03 with 51k miles with the stock tcase, stock trans, stock rear, and stock clutch.

No problems.
Hope this helps.

I think you have the evo xmsn confused with the 02+ STI xmsn. The STI is infamous for destroying its tranny one you get over 350 whp

My 5th gear syncro has gone out and I'm only at 28k miles. Sometimes and I'm engine braking or revving down, it doesn't sound like the tranny likes it too much...
