Need some help please!!
Well first off I want to say this is a very nice and informative forum. I curently own a 2006 Trailbalzer SS. I do love it but sometimes a change is nice. I'm considering purchasing a EVO within the next 6 months. I want to spend 25K or under. I would like to get one that is 2005-2006 or newer with lower miles. I was a service writer for GM for 15 years some so I'm pretty car savey. My question is this. From your experience what advantages or disadvantages are there from those years? What would you choose if you had to do it over? I prefer an unmodded car but I understand that certian things I would do anyways, so what mods should I stay away from? Any help would be greatly appericiated as any other suggestions would be great. Thanks again!!

Search. There is really a whole lot of information that will answer all your questions.
25k you should be able to easily get a 05-06 with under 30k miles.
Don't rush it, try and get one thats bone stock. Not only the for the obvious reasons, but plus it's a whole lot more fun to do everything yourself.
Main thing to stay away from is a BOV. A lot of people upgrade this too soon and find the problems that come along with that. You don't need one until your farther into upgrading.
Start off with a drop-in air intake, turbo back exhaust, and a tune.

There are very few stock left, so do a through out check. Like me, I have paid 25K for 03 (2 years ago) with 21K miles. Thought it was stock, when got home and started checking it, the car had the crap modded out of it and returned to stock (luckily I have had no problems) but I could have bought 400 whp evo for that money, and it would be modded too.
As far as modding goes - decide for yourself what you're going to be using your evo for... I started modding for 1/4 mile, but then tried road racing and fell in love right there, 1/4 makes no sense to me anymore. So I wish was modding for road racing right away. Couple things had to be changed from my drag set up.
Again the money I have spent modding it for road racing, if they would go towards drag - I would have no less than 700whp evo. But not it's reliable and can handle 1.5 hours of constant beating no probs.
good luck
