noobie question, whats faster?

so i have an 05 evo 8 with a 5 speed but my friend is thinking of getting an evo 9, but he doesnt no whats better, the 5 speed or the 6 speed(MR). what do you guys think would be faster all around? all hes thinking of doing is a BC(21 psi), IC pipes, intake, and catback with a tune. so what would be better for him, some days it will be a daily driver, then some days it wont. yes he will be on the highway sometimes. and what MPH are you at wen you shift into 5th at 7k rpm in 4th on a 5 speed.

Personnally I prefer the gear ratio in a 6 speed over a 5 speed. Tho I would say its more of a personnal prefrence of which is better, for under 300 hp. once you go over that I would say 6speed is the better option.

Stock VS. stock, your freinds IX will be faster than your 8.

the GSR and MR both have the same motor, but the MR has a smoother tranny (for daily driving). the tranny in the GSR, however, can take more abuse on the track (but feels a bit notchier).

if the 5 speed is ussually used for just racing, then he should get the 6 speed, cause the only people this kid wil race is the people that pull up next to him. so the 6 speed would be better right?

The mr handles just slightly better and is slightly faster than the straight IX.

The final drive is about the same between the 2 transmissions (if i remember right). The 6 speed is close ratio so you should be more able to maintain power while on a road road course. If your modding the 5 speed is supposedly stronger.

I wouldnt base the choice on just the trans. The 9 mr was about 38K and a straight 9 was several grand less.

If he just wants to race he needs to find an RS and learn modulate brakes

All 3 cars are so close (a few tenths) so basically he should get what he wants (or even harder what he can find)....
