Tracking higher mileage evo 8
Tracking higher mileage evo 8
I've done some searching and have been able to get some good info, but i wanted to see if anyone had any specific advise for my situation.
Essentially, I am thinking of buying an '03 evo with about 50ish thousand miles (mostly highway). I know the owner, and he has taken good care of the car. Does not always drive slow, but he isnt a harsh driver (i think it has the original clutch).
My question is whether such a car could be suitable for some track use. I am concerned with creating a money pit, taking the fun away from the car, though i am aware that any track car will need regular tlc.
Any opinions/advise/warnings would be awesome. BTW, I've never been on a track before, only a few auto-x's with the miata, but I plan to take it easy and learn the techniques well.
thanks.

I haven't tracked (nor to i plan to). I am willing to bet you could do it fine with the right prep items (fluids, pads, rotors, tires, etc.). I will say that i am still on my stock, OEM clutch and am at 86K miles. Now that does not help or correlate to clutch abuse and tracking the car, but i wanted to add that in, to let you know OEM clutches can last plenty long...
Clutch wear has to do with the driver in most cases. I've read a lot about evo clutches and i heard a few different stories, but have my own opinions.
Most people say they're a bit weak, but i think this is for a reason. When you have a car making this amount of power, all the drivetrain is going to get hit with some abuse. As we all know, drivetrain is expensive. Usually the cheapest part of the setup is the clutch. Why? Which would you rather replace, a clutch or a trans...? Mitsubishi isnt stupid, they know why people by this car. So they made our life easier. If we had a strong clutch we'd be replacing transmissions...
P.S. You'll be fine.
