Hey guys,
I've been reading around on the forums for a few days now learning a lot more than I thought I knew about Evo's.

A friend of mine has an Evo 8 MR with some go faster goodies on it, he's had it for about a year and from day one till now he and I have gone out to meets in it and I've really enjoyed the car.

I'm currently Enlisted for the Army and I should be shipping out to Basic Training (BCT) in maybe a month, hopefully less. However, with my enlistment I got an Enlistment Bonus for $25k. And with that money I'm looking to get myself an Evo.

I fear that by the time I get out of BCT I wont be able to buy anything other than the new Evo X which I absolutely hate..I think it doesn't look as good as the Evo 8 and 9, the piping for the turbo is stupid, no factory boost gauges, the wing looks..burr..and yea..I just don't like it.

I'd really like to get an Evo 8.5 like my friends, I've looked at the Evo 9 and I also don't like it as much as the 8. If I were to get an 8 though I'd probably swap across the black tails from the 9 and the Recaro's which I think are more comfortable.

However, I was wondering what sort of price range I would be looking at for an 05 MR. I have quite a nice idea of what I want to do to it as well.

400 AWHP, E85, no nitrous, no meth.

Regardless, an Evo is far outside of my usual automotive zone seeing as I'm a Former Honda Owner. If theres any Honda guys here, I used to have an EJ8 with build D16Y8 running 31psi on a T3/4 with a 60 trim, made 312whp at altitude.

Hello, and welcome to evom. I would say your looking at about 21-24k for an VIII MR. Also, there is no such thing as a 8.5, just call it a 8 MR

Good luck at basic training. Your in for one hell of a time

Thanks man, Yea, I was figuring around the 21-25k range..which is quite the sum for an E03 :P. You might've seen the demotivator thing, " The Army, its not just a job, its like $300 a week" well that aint no lie..we dont make crap.

Hm..I thought I saw somewhere that the 2005 VIII MR is called the 8.5 or somethin..eh

Thanks, I'm hoping that my training at Altitude (approximately 7200 ft ) will give me an edge at Basic. They're sending me to Fort Benning, GA for 13 weeks for Infantry training.

Any advise for modifications once I get one? I've been told all sorts of different things about different brand mods. some say Megan Racing exhaust manifolds are good, some say they suck. Some say that a coated and ported stock manifold flows the best and will take abuse. However one thing is for sure, Definitely gonna get an APS Recirculation valve.

Btw, any bad reviews with the Injen LICP?

I have had several Hondas in the past, the Evo is an entirely different beast. you can find a nice VIII or IX for your $25k, probably even a low mileage example.

My advice is try to find one that has not been modded as it probably has had a easier life.

Good luck at Basic.

Yea, thats what I'm hoping for..I've had plenty of experience with Honda's, from my D16 civic to my friends ITR that goes 10.99 at altitude. I'm ready for something different. I do like Talons, but..the older DSM's just dont seem to be very reliable.

I'm hoping to find an unmodified one, however I have an idea as to what sort of mods I'd put on it myself. mostly just things to utilize the stock components of the Evo. And of course a few cosmetic touch ups.

After doing some searching on here and more reading, It seems as though there is a split decision about the IC piping mods. Some say its a waste of money, others say it really helps throttle response and the turbo spool. If anyone has Dyno results of a car that was already tuned, and then had the IC piping put on it, I'd really like to see the difference. or if anyone knows if the CFM is any different with the new less restrictive piping I'd also be interested.

However, as for mods and other purchases..
(1) Tactrix Cable (2)EvoScan (3)TBE (4)IC Piping + Intake (5)Walbro 255 (6) 680cc or 720cc injectors (7) debating between Megan Racing or Ported and coated stock manifold (8) ARP head bolts for preporation, (9) APS Recirculation Valve (10) Tune for E85. I'm hoping for around 320-350 AWHP at altitude and a low 12 ET.

Just to start with, Later I'm hoping to run some 272s or 280s. However I'm debating over which brand..heard good things about HKS, yet, also heard good things about GSC.

any input on the mod list would be great. I'm tempted to run 1000cc injectors as preporation. Also, I dont want to run any meth or nitrous at any time. Pure turbo and motor.

And thanks..BCT should be...fun to say the least :P
@Mr. PSSsSt - Thanks man, its great to be here

I'm not gonna be in the market for one for about 3-4 months but if you still have it, then let me know for sure. If you could PM me some more details and your location that would be great.

I am looking for close to stock..I really hate buying pre-modified vehicles..not as close of a connection to the car. But due to the Shortage of Evo 8's and 9's I might have to take what I can get.

well i am hoping to have it sold before then. and i know what you mean about buying a pre-modded car. you do not have nearly the same connection with the car, but you do save a ton of money. so it is kinda a tradeoff situation. and i will post a link in here for you once i get a for sale thread for it here in the next few days.

Alright, thanks a lot man. best of luck to ya on selling it..but if you have it that would be great for me :P

As a Soldier planning to have a family some day, it'll be a great car. Daily Driver and Weekend Warrior.

and like in Top Gear when they compare the Audi R8 to the Porsche Carerra. he says while debating the Porsche, " Well I took the kids to school in this. you can use all 4 seats"

Jeremy Clarkson: "well who's the real daddy now, I told the kids 'sorry, daddy only has two seats' and I didnt take the kids to school" lol
