thinking of an Evo

Hi im new to this forum, Im thinking about getting into an evo (i was thinking prolly like an 03-04 evo 8 or evo RS). i searched for most of the info i want but its all scattered and just alot of stuff all at once(it also doesnt help that i get sidetracked very easy). As of right now i got an 02 nissan sentra spec-v, its a nice little car but just way to hard to see any real gains out of it and plus fwd sux *** if ur lookin for a quick car. Again im thinking about an evo 8 or an RS, i just would like to kno a few things before i progress any farther and start signing paperwork for a loan and gettin all hyped up.

-mantainance - ive read about the whole timing belt thing at 60k but wat other kind of mantainence would i be looking at(other than basic oil, tires, brakes and fluid services)

-Tranny - I recently test drove an 03 evo 8 and the guy was telling about tranny whine after you let off the throttle, is this just B/S or just a common noise with all evos. also how sturdy are the tranny's (this will be my daily driver btw)? can they take just everyday driving with a little bit of WOT every here and there?

-Clutch - Obviously AWD clutches dont last as long as a reg rwd or fwd clutch but how easy are they to replace, is it just like a day to a weekend kind of thing or like a few weeks at a dealer? I also noticed on the evo i test drove that the clutch lets out pretty high, is this normal for all evo's?

-Daily driver - can these things be used as a daily driver wit just light to med mods?

and finaly...

-which trim? - At first i was thinking 03-04 evo 8 but than i read a little about the RS. Any major differences between the two aside from cabin sound, less options and rougher ride? because honestly i can deal with all of that in fact i kinda prefer those. im not a fan of nice stereos (as long as it plays decently clear tunes im good) interior sound or lack of options (although i would prefer the wing, the moonroof i can live with or without but they are kool to have

Thank you in advance for your time and any advice

EVO is one of the best every day rides man... look at my mods and I daily drove my car for 3.5 yeras with 500 whp!! Tranny's are hit n miss if you get an issue with gears send it to shep racing and it will shift like a hot knife going through butter. Clutch jobs can be done in 1 day by a shop no big deal. If you go with an exedy twin disc HD you should not have to worry about a clutch anytime soon and it can hold gobs of power.

Maintenance is pretty much everything you listed. fluid services include differential fluid, transmission fluid, etc.

Tranny - the wine in first gear is pretty common for the most part. and should be fine for the most part for a DD ( i DD mine without a problem.)

Clutch - stock clutch can last long depending on how you drive it. most people end up swapping to an aftermarket clutch. and would recommend having a shop install it rather than doing it yourself unless you've done it before.

Daily Driver - They can surely be great DD's with proper maintenance.

Personally if you were going to Daily Drive it i wouldn't pick an RS but many people on this forum DD theirs without a problem. It all depends on your driving style and if power windows etc is really that important to you. From my understanding the differences engine wise are pretty minor if any for the RS, but it may be worth a look up.

^ those guys hit the nail on the head. evos are great daily drivers no matter how many mods you put on them as long as you do the minor routine maintenances, but the rs is kinda lacking in options for a daily driver(no power windows and locks!).

Evo's are great cars. Reliable, fun to drive, also really practical. It's the little bad boy racer with some huge *****.
