DV sound sample
I just replaced the leaky plastic DV on my VIII with the JDM MR. Not only does it perform better, but it also now sounds different. The plastic DV made hissing noises, intake & DV sounded a lot alike (probably due to leaking). With the new aluminum DV in lifting or shifting makes a deeper chuffing sound, sounding like it comes through a long tube (which it does).
Does anyone know of a audio/video sample that has a good DV sound I can compare it to? I live in Virginia Beach where there are very few Evo's to make a comparison.

Make sure it doesn't sound like this:

And this is what it SHOULD sound like (open air can VERY LOUD video..)

Thanks. After driving it a few times the thing sounds like a little of both. It sounds like it has the deeper "Chuff" but without the "chatter" at mid range. At higher inputs it sounds more like the normal one. Either way it sounds very different than the stock VIII DV I took out. The JDM MR is the only recent mod, I have a Dynoflash mail in and a K&N drop in as my only mods. Otherwise its all painfully stock.
- BUT - when I was taking out my airbox etc. to get access to the old DV, I found a 3/8" vacuum line almost exactly a foot long laying right behind the drivers headlight and in front of the airbox. I looked around for a good while I couldn't see where it could have come from. I can't think of how the thing got to where I found it. I ran a pressure test last weekend and didn't see it. It's not like I found one end swinging in the wind, it was just laying there.
The car is definitely running a good deal better than it was, I would think that if it were missing a vacuum line that it would be running like unholy crap. The dealer did some work on the car early on with the vacuum lines, perhaps they left a piece behind and just now fell out of hiding. I'll have to go back and trace it all out.

OK, I have a cause. I learned that some DV's came installed backwards from the factory. I put in my new DV like I found the stocker - backwards. Problem now is that I'm at work w/o my tools and this is going to bug me all day. See what that does.
Then we'll see what F's up next...

Missing Vacuum Line:
Likely this could be part of the intercooler sprayer system which was taken out OR it could be the hose from the intake to the valve cover.
DV Position:
It has been quite awhile since I've installed one in factory position but IIRC the way the DV should be facing in the stock position will be when the top is vertically aligned. The top is the part with the nipple for the vacuum hose should point straight up.

Mine has the diaphragm section up and the nipple facing the front. The vacuum hose loops around awkwardly and the fit doesn't work as good if it was installed proper. I remember thinking about the goofy arrangement when doing the swap, wondering if I should go look it up.
Does the vacuum hose to the DV need a clamp? Mine doesn't have that.
I accounted for the intake hoses, and my car still has its sprayer bottle which has a clear line I think. This hose is solid black.
Thanks for the help.

The overflow tube is the clear one I was thinking about, I have my draw tube.
I turned the DV around, haven't driven it yet. I did notice that the port originally on the intake tube side was partly and lightly coated with a fine black odorless powder. Is that normal for 100 or so miles of driving?
