MR = 6-speed, aluminum roof, vortex generator, adjustable HID's, fogs, gauge cluster, carbon fiber hand brake lever and grey BBS wheels.

SE = 5-speed, aluminum roof, no vortex, adjustable HID's, fogs, special SE front lip, red stiching on the Recaros, no gauges, no carbon handbrake lever and diamond black BBS wheels.

MR SE = MR with SE package added to the car.

Hope that clears it up for you. I didn't even realize the SE existed until I went to look at Evos. In my opinon the SE is the best compromise between the Evo models and its certainly the more uncommon one of them too.

wow thanks for that i wasnt even aware that there were that many differences now this just made my decision even harder, and it is probably going to take me a while to find out which I like better.
6speed/5speed
vortex/no vortex
lip/no lip
red stitch/ non
gauges/none

no SSL on the SE. it has the aluminum roof. don't think the base IX comes with HID's. i think it's just on the MR/SE. did no one mention the MR has upgraded suspension as well?

Yes its just the dampers but the ARE Bilsteins. Not just a refined stock suspension. They are far superior to the stock KYB. If you are not gonna track the car a lot or drag it every weekend the 6 speed is pretty stout. If you like the looks of the se then get the se lip. If this will be a street car I would say get the MR. The struts are much better on the street. You would be wasting your money on coilovers so get a really good set of street springs to match with those good dampers and you'll have a great street ride. Trust me, I have a set of Swift springs on my MR and the car has a perfect drop and rides REALLY good compaired to my 03 VIII. The se is prob the best bang for the buck but don't let people fool you into thinking the Bilsteins paired with a good spring isn't a nice combo. Or that your 4th gear in the 6 speed will explode going down the highway. The people that experience these kinds of problems either beat the **** out of their car or don't take care of it. Anyway, you have a tough choice to make so good luck man...

I got the SE since it was the last new non MR my dealership had, they are much more uncommon and I didn't want to pay $43,000 for my dealers last new 06 MR. You can't go wrong with either one though. Good luck.

In regards to the 6-speed tranny holding up to track, auto-x abuse; for what it's worth, I know someone with an MR SE that is an SCCA Solo competitor who does tons of Auto-X with his 6-speed. Honestly, the 6-speed tranny is perfect for auto-x. Gears 1-3 are just as thick/strong as the 5-speed, if not more so. As for tracking, it has always been a heat/maintenance issue. If you were to increase your tranny flush interval (which is easy as hell btw) and manage your laps to not over hot lap the **** out of it, then you'll be fine. You could even get a tranny cooler. Also, on the way home, on the highway, you can't beat cruising over 80mph at about 3k rpm or lower That sixth gear is worth it to me.

Yeah i love the MR for the carbon trim the stock gauges and the 6 speed. The thing i like about the SE are the lip which like you said i can just get one. And i really like the dimond black BBS's and the RED stictch.

But thoes can all be added so I think that I have been convinced that an MR is the way to go....

Cool man. You can pick up lightly used diamond black's for about 1K and sell your stock BBS for about the same. Also look on mitsubishiparts.net for the SE lip.
