I'm an idiot - brake question

I went and installed my Hawk HPS brake pads on my evo 8, front and rear. I followed the directions on the forum on how to replace brake pads. Everything went well, then I realized I'm a complete idiot. Instead of using high temp copper grease or anti-seize compound, I used copper RTV silicone

I tested out the brakes and they stop fine and feel good. They weren't squeeking at all except occasionally when I'm rolling slowly (15mph or slower) and slowly hit the brakes it squeels like a pig getting it's tail cut off.

My question is: what will the copper RTV do on the back of the pads??? I feel like such a retard.

It will harden and flake off. I would be careful because if the caliper or pad gets hot the RTV could catch fire. I would try to get as much of it off as you can. I know it is tempting to leave it there but that is a risk I would not be willing to take. Good luck.

This is the copper high temp RTV though. you think it will still catch on fire?

I think there's always a possibility of it catching fire when it comes to any type of adhesive. Brakes get really hot, even with regular driving.

+1 on the RTV.. you might get lucky and it holds out well, I've used RTV on gasket parts in the engine bay, which do get hot, but the brakes get amazingly hot as well. You are better off trying to get it off while it's still "rubbery" versus when it hardens.

Yea, I'm not confident driving with that on, so I took my Talon to work today and will do the same tomorrow and hopefully Saturday I can do this whole process over again, scrape off the RTV and put the right stuff on this time.....

I'm so pissed at myself for not paying attention to which tube I pulled out of the tool box
