I used to drive a Toyota Corolla, and I used to sell Toyota cars, Toyota has always been my favorite brand, so is Lexus. If I am going to buy a luxury car, I def. will go w/ Toyota. The reliability and quality on Toyota is just unbeatable, even better than Honda. The evolution has been a very reliable car so far, even with Mods, I think that's b/c Mitsubishi has spend lots of time on evolution in R&D.
Is this a repost by the way? there was a same post not too long ago.
No, this isn't a repost. I was unaware of there being another post like this before.

I'm just talking all around quality, every make/model has its own set of +/-.

You can't buy a high horse power turbo charged car and expect it to last 300k miles. It simply won't happen regardless of who makes it. The problem with cars like the EVO is that the performance encourages you to drive the car harder than you would a normal car. I mean really, how much fun is it to wind out your Toyota SUV? In an EVO or STi or something similar, you drive it harder and hit higher rpms on a regular basis. That's the point of owning one. Higher rpms equal more stress, more boost and more heat, all of which limit the life of any motor.

If you're looking for Toyota quality and reliability, btw - that doesn't have the same meaning it did a few years back, and must have something sporty, look at an S2000 or Lexus IF. If on the other hand, you're looking for a brilliantly fun car to drive that should cover 100k miles trouble free, check out the EVO, but remember, modding any car will negatively impact long term reliability.

I agree completely with robertrinaustin. Toyotas are bulletproof, I drove a 97 Camry that I abused on a daily basis. Burned out in it, forgot to change the oil for a year, went mudding in it whenever it rained and ran into stationary objects with it. I gave it to my dad an he still drives it. Has 147K and still works pretty well. You could not do that with an Evo by any means. The Evo is a car you definetely buy for excitement, but it will serve pretty well as a daily driver too. If you treat it well, it will give you many years of enjoyment.

Right, it's that old mechanic's adage:

Cheap. Fast. Reliable.

Pick two.

Most Japanese car will make it 300k as long as you take care of them.... But most would agree that the mitsu is not quite as well built as a Honda or Toyota.... What it should come down to us what you like driving

For me I don't like driving Toyota so I will buy Honda or mitsu or Nissan instead

Ive been working for Toyota since 86 as a technician and the last thing Toyota sold in the USA that excited me was the Supra.I was really into the AE86 corolla'sback then and modified a couple of 200 hp. N.A. motors.Toyota sold a celica in australia in 83 that had a twincam 8 valve turbocharged 1.8 liter four that was very stout. It was called 3TGTE.In 2005 when the sports car itch got me I ended up with the sti which I have sold.I cant wait till i'm financially in a position to buy a evo 8 or 9.

Def agree that the Supra was the last really cool car Toyota made. I find it hard to believe that when I'm driving it around there are people that come up and ask me who makes a Supra? When I tell them Toyota they are always like, when did Toyota ever make a car like this? Well its been a while now. Good luck picking up an Evo soon.

Longevity is partially based on how well the car was maintained and treated through out it's life. I've owned Fords, Chevy's, Mazda's and Mitsubishi's. I've had friends drive toyotas forever and have also had friends with complete toyota lemons. My Mustang was absolute CRAP so was my Mazda made Cougar (or I mean re-skinned Ford Probe). My Mom's Euro Sport had alternators replaced every 10k miles and full brake replacement every 8k to 18k miles!

Each manufacturer has their issues, some much bigger than others! Over all I've had no issues rather than flimsy bumper moldings and paint chipping from Mitsubishi, I've owned 3 Lancers and my father just bought an 08 Endeavor. I also had a friend who owned a Mirage, totally gutted the car, painted the interior with spray paint, replaced the muffler with a coffee can, removed the hood in order to keep is food warm, bottomed the car and broke the a/c / power steering more than once, hammered the clutch, ran over mail boxes, e braked at 60+ miles and hour and yet this car never refused to turn over.

I actually raced him in my mom's lumina and got trounced and I still wonder how any car could endure this abuse? I also read out of the top 10 most reliable cars, the galant was 4th, so Mitsubishi's build quality is at least par with the competition. Not to mention look at their career in the World Rally cup, the EVO was meant to handle abuse!

P.S. I only mentioned a small amount of what happened to the poor mirage.

i would say
Toyota 1 Supra or lexus
Honda 2 only an Acura
Nissan 3 Skyline or 300Z
Mazda 4 never would buy from them
Subaru 5 only car i would get is the Sti
Mitsubishi 6 only car i would get is the evo from mitsu

I agree with 1 and 2.In my mind 3 for subaru or mitsubishi. The sti never gave me any problems,it reminded me of the older Toyota's that were built really well.I worked on a 4cylinder Solara with 5k miles that had a broken valve spring. The Toyota field reps came by and being an old timer I questioned them on the quality of the solara. They said that because they were building a lot more cars the acceptable room for error goes up.Sounds like a statement Ford would make.

German cars are built better???

That's not true...
Benz, BMW, AUDI cars are high quality, powerful, and luxury
however, they're also very expensive
Most german brands are trying to sell their cars to high class..wealthy people.
And many people can purchase Toyota cars for less expense..
they are aiming at two different upper-middle class people.
You can also find high quality cars from Lexus which is owned by Toyota..
