Mitsu vs. Toyota: quality

So I'm looking to buy an EVO X MR soon...

I'm curious to know the track record and history for mitsubishi's quality. I'm coming from a toyota, and those things can take a beating and last for 300,000+ miles, we all know that a Toyota has extreme longevity when treated right...how would mitsubishi's quality compare?

Since both are Japanese vehicles, you should be good. I love the Evo, but I think German cars are built better. I'll never be impressed by what the U.S. car market puts out. There are some mean american cars out there, but domestic would be a last resort for myself. Just take care of the Evo, and it'll take care of you. It has one the strongest motors that I've ever seen, but don't take it for granted. Go get that MR and join the club!

Well, I'm not actually coming from a Toyota per say. I have always gone with Toyota, I currently have a 2006 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 SE V6.....its great...SUV...good for camping, long trips and it picks up nicely for an SUV. I wanted something more fun to drive thus the EVO. Also wanted something I could modify and upgrade that had a huge modding community.

So, basically I've always been with the Toyota family, I'm a bit nervous on straying from it...I'd go Lexus, but luxury is not what I'm after. I'm after SPORT.

going from toyota to mitsubishi, im pretty sure you will be disappointed in terms of longevity. toyotas run forever. however, what you lose in longevity, you gain in THRILL!!!!

If I was to try and put them in order of quality I'd say...

Honda
Toyota
Subaru
Mitsubishi

I base that on cars I've owned or general articles I've read in various magazines, etc.

Good luck!

Is this a repost? there was a same post not too long ago.
I used to drive a Toyota Corolla, and I used to sell Toyota cars, Toyota has always been my favorite brand, so is Lexus. If I am going to buy a luxury car, I def. will go w/ Toyota. The reliability and quality on Toyota is just unbeatable, even better than Honda. The evolution has been a very reliable car so far, even with Mods, I think that's b/c Mitsubishi has spend lots of time on evolution in R&D.
Is this a repost by the way? there was a same post not too long ago.

Not all Japanese cars are created equal. Mitsubishi doesn't even come close to Toyota reliability. Saying otherwise, is just plane denial. As for the strength of the Evo motor, I'm not really sure you can bank on that just yet. Since you're looking at an Evo X. The 4B11 has yet to prove anything. Don't get me wrong, I think it will do just fine... but who knows. The 4G63 has been in the Evo since 1991 and has done more than prove it's worth. The rest of the car however... lets just say when you get an Evo, you get it for the thrill of the drive. It definitely helps to be mechanically inclined. If you take care of any car it will last long. The Evo is no exception. Unlike a Toyota or Honda however, you cannot expect it to hit 300k miles when you neglect it and beat the **** out of it daily.

The Evo definitely has a HUGE modding community. This forum alone, has more than you need to do most of what you'd want to do yourself AND get into garage tunning As for Lexus, the IS300 or IS250 are said to be really fun cars as well. Not Evo thrill I'm sure, but not dull either.

Agreed. Here's my take on it (with experience )

Reliability:
  • Honda
  • Toyota
  • Nissan
  • Subaru
  • Mitsubishi

Street Thrill:
  • Nissan ------------- Skyline
  • Toyota ------------- Supra
  • Mitsubishi --------- Evo
  • Subaru ------------ STI
  • Honda ------------- NSX

Realistically speaking though, since most of those cars are either not easy to get or are ***** expensive with 10+ years under the hood, the Evo gets bumped to the top of the list. In my opinion though, I'd get the GSR over the MR any day. That's only cause I like old school manual shifting though. To each their own.
