My Evo Buying Experience! (couple questions inside also)
So I've now been the proud owner of an '06 WW IX w/ 12k miles for 10 enjoyable days! I'm 23, and I've had my heart set on this car since it came to the states, and after all the years of waiting I found the perfect car for me.
I contacted the seller (gobyebye) and he was MORE than just helpful! He took multiple pictures of everything on the car for me, answered every question I had in complete detail, and even took it to have it inspected (for my peace of mind) by a tuner shop. My roomate and I flew out from Indy to NY where he and his wife picked us up in the cleanest evo you'll ever see, and we finalized all the paper work at the bank. Then they took us back to their home where he installed my in-dash dvd player (shoulda seen the looks I got on the plane with a big box in my hand) for me with the orbital kit he threw in, invited us in for a drink, and then proceeded to take us to the city (I've never been to nyc before). After showing us ground zero ect, they came out with us to meet my cousin, his wife, and their friend. We all went to dinner in china town, where the food was fantastic! After dinner we all got ice cream, then headed toward times square and the Rockerfeller building where we hung out, took some pics and enjoyed the city. We then split ways with my cousin, and they took us back to their place where we had left our bags, it was prob around 12am at this point, after that we all hopped in the evo and they took us to a pier with a cool view of the city before dropping us off at my cousins apartment for the night at around 2am. He let us leave the evo in his garage spot for the night so I wouldn't have to park it on the street, and then brought it back to us the next morning with extra gas in the tank!
Basically, they went above and beyond in every single aspect! I'm sure I left out multiple things for the sake of length, but they really made the weekend a hell of a time! I hope everyone is as lucky as I was, thanks Galo!

So while in the newbie section, and seeing how this is my thread lol, I figure I can ask a couple questions. I've done a little research, but wanted to hear from someone who knew for fact or experience.
o2 housing + resonated test pipe, along with the retune, what kind of numbers do you think I'd be looking at? I would imagine atleast a good 15-20whp from what I've read, maybe more after letting AMS retune as the shop that tuned it before, said it was a pretty conservative tune, however I don't have any of that info...Also my main concern is durability and daily driving, and I've read that the o2 housings (unless it's a ported stocker, which doesnt net much gains) are fairly fragile and will eventually break. This is also why I chose to go with a resonated test pipe (even though the straight through would prob get a little more power), as the system on there now is VERY quiet, which I like for daily driving and dates, but a little more sound wouldnt bother me at all. Any ideas on how much louder the system would be with the o2 housing and resonated test pipe? Basically just looking for any info on anything I've just stated, affirmation, new info, #s, ect...
Also, I'm buying the stock BBS wheels this week from a local guy if all goes to plan, I know 235/45 is the stock wheel size, and I've looked at 100 pics of diff size tires on the BBS, but does anyone know from personal experience, how 245/45 or 245/40 would stand against the stock tire height on the rim itself? Basically I'd like to get a little wider tire than the 235 while still on a 17x8 rim but have the same tire/wheel height so they sit flush, but not too beefy in the wheel wells with the slight swift spring's drop...any info is appreciated.

While both sizes you mentioned would fit on the stock 8" wheel and have been used by numerous users, neither is close to being ideal for the car and its gearing, as the 245/40 has a smaller diameter and 245/45 has a larger diameter, and it's not by an insignificant margin. The calculations put it at numbers that you probably wouldn't figure make a huge difference, but seeing how you have a high-performance vehicle in your possession, you might as well do it properly. Will anything bad happen? Probably not, but you'd be better off getting a 255/40 tire, which preserves the stock diameter better than the other two sizes. This way, you'll get the wider tire you want while retaining as close of a diameter to stock as you can with a different sized tire. Many Evo owners have used this size without any issues, but it's still recommended that you stick with the 235/45 size.
This is the biggest draw back for me personally on getting the BBS, although I got a good pending price and I like the look, I'd love for them to be atleast 8.5" as I've heard the handling is noticeably better at 8.5-9" wheels, and I like the fuller look of a wider wheel, obviously lol. And the only other wheels I like (advan RS, Work Emotion CR Kai) are out of my price range for now, even then I think the stock BBS are sharp compartively, esp on a WW evo...I'm going for the white/blackish theme
do you know if the handling is going to be noticeably better on the stock BBS with a 235/45 vs a 255/40?
Any ideas on the test pipe and o2 housings?
Hey Tommy!!
Glad you are enjoying the ride, I sure do miss her. Good thing work is keeping me bombarded with projects and last minute emergencies task so I have been able to not think about it too much.
I'd also like to thank you for being a good buyer! You have kept everything in line on your end so I wouldnt have to wonder about anything. Im also glad everything went according to plan and the weather held out well for the weekend for you to enjoy.
You and your roommate are bunch of great guys. Great to meet a great friend like you.
As for the 02 housing, DO NOT buy megan 02 since Ive heard lots of problems with them.
I think as for next step, get some 770cc injectors, testpipe and a retune. You should be close to 400 whp with those addition (depending on the dyno).
let me know if you need anything from me.
