Camming an Evo IX

Hey, I was reading up on "Reaching 350 WHP safely" threads and noticed that some people mention cams and some dont. I thought on the IX cams werent needed because of the Mivec.. Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks in advance guys.

Edit: Are cams really needed to reach 350 WHP?

Cams may not give as significant gains as they do on the VIII's because we have the mivec. There are definatly gains to be made from cams. Another thing to keep in mind with adding cams is that its not just about the peak gains, they help to hold power throughout the entire rpm range. Another thing, if you are only looking to make 350 safely, you wouldnt necessarily need cams. I just witnessed a ix make 373 with all buschur bolt ons, 93 octane and 23 pounds. Bolt ons and a good tune should get you to 350 no problem.

I think if you are using 91 octane like in Sacramento I believe you do need cams.

I see.. Holding power throughout the RPM range is pretty important though, but I would think on higher HP cars more. But thats always a good plus to have. So what would be the expected gains from Cams?

So far to reach 350 WHP I've got the following:

TBE
Intake
LICP
MBC
Tune

Do I really need a fuel pump? Is it necessary? And anything else there needed?

Edit: And yes, I am using 91 octane gas. Super crappy.

Im @ 340/305 ish w/ stock turbo on a IX. Before my LICP and a HFC that was just installed... (DLL from evoscan) Ive been told and read that it basically reads as if it were on a dynojet.(-5 - 10 hp/tq) Gonna re-tune soon as soon as I get my 3 1/2" cooler...

Cams, as been said already, but will not only net a signifigant amount of powerthrough out the power band, but they will also allow you to push the car harder (further along in the rpm/power band) like say to 8000+ rpm

Add a bigger FMIC and you should hit 350 @ the wheels.

Depending on the cams and the tuner, you could see gains of about 20whp.

And yes a fuel pump is cheap insurance, so you may as well get it.
