Help...Please.

Okay, so, I'm new here (obviously) and I want to clear some things up first. I DO NOT know that much about EVO mods..except for Exhaust, Intake, and like Turbo...and other commonly used terms.

If someone can give me a lesson (yes I read the thread stickied) on USED EVO's, like for example...if the engine is worn out or whatever. Suppose I buy a IX MR with 54K on it, would it affect the car in any way?

IF I do buy an EVO, all I would modify on it would be:

Exhaust
Intake
New Turbo (MAYBE)

Exhaust: I was looking at the HKS Carbon Ti Cat-Back

I don't get the difference between a CAT-BACK and a TURBO-BACK? And is there like more parts except just the exhaust its self that will ADD more horsepower.

Intake:
Pretty much any K&N Intakes

Short Ram and Cold Air? My friend said Cold Air is "bad" because you get water in it when you drive in the rain, and I don't even know what the hell a short ram is.

Turbo:
Pretty Much Any.

No Comment, pretty straight forward.

So can someone give me a whole lesson. All I;m going to be doing on my EVO is pretty much opening it up once in a while and racing usually.

Any Suggestions? Comments? Answers?

Thanks.

EDIT: Also, I'm going to be looking for a completely BONE STOCK EVO.

oh boy.. ok..

1. A cat back exhaust is only half of ur exhuast system. it goes from the cat converter to the back of the car. this mod won't change much. if you get a turbo back exhaust it comes with the cat-back as well as with a downpipe and a test pipe. these create a full exhaust and let the turbo breath and gives you alot more power

2. lol. just get a drop in air-filter or a cone filter with maf adapter so you can have a place to put it. no piping is necessary, stock piping works well so forget about "cold air"

3. if u upgrade a turbo you need alot more mods so i would say don't do it. you have to upgrade injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, software, timing,..... etc etc etc

stock evo is good but hard to find. however judging by ur lack of knoledge a slightly modded evo might be to ur benifit. an evo with 2000$ worth of mods and a good tune is twice as fast as a stock evo. its easy to make these cars fast if u know what u r doing

THANK YOU. Helped me loads.

So the turbo was a bit much money for me anyway, and I'm not really a hardcore tuner guy, I'm more of an enthusiast.

So:

A Turbo Back Exhaust System
No Intake I guess, just what you said.
No turbo upgrade
and a nice tune

thanks.

EDIT: Also, would it matter for example if I bought a HKS CARBON TI CAT-BACK and a TANABE DOWNPIPE and also a INVIDIA TEST PIPE. It would still a full system and could the different manufacturers parts work together?

From what Ive heard mixmatching brands does not yield the best results. I would just get a tbe with all parts included from one brand. Get a drop in I personally like k&n. You can upgrade your turbo but like the other guy said you will have to upgrade a lot of other parts too. You really dont need a bigger turbo unless you plan on running 400+whp. You can always go with a meth kit too.

so cal man, where in socal, in riverside, huntington beach(how ever you spell it) there are tone and tones of evos, no mods at all. and some with very few, like guages, and stuff like that, or a catback. look around man. there all over down here, and with not alot of miles. around 10k to 40k. mostly below 30k though

Turbo back's don't look as nice IMO

EDIT: My final decision was:

Tanabe SMR TBE
K&N Intake System
Boost Controller
Fuel Pump
Dyno/Tune

This is a good read. Always get a tune when adding anything to get the most power from your bolt on and to make sure your addition is safe.
