im sorry but how many times does it take for you to understand something so simple?

Turbo back exhaust= full system
Cat back exhaust = only one pipe from the catback

A turbo back exhaust has a cat back exhaust so unless you plan on getting a different down pipe and test pipe just get a tbe. I would recommend AMS tbe.
Just know that with a test pipe you wont pass emissions

Because everyone has something different to say. And that confuses me. One says HKS sucks, another says its good, one says Tanabe is good another says Tanabe cost alot.

So now I SHOULDN'T buy as test pipe...lol see, things like this confuse me..

IMO
dont listen to anyone. Everyone will have their own opinions. Most likely they will say whatever exhaust they own is good and whatever one they dont own sucks. Do a bit of research on each product without bias opinions. Just know Greddy, AMS, Buschur, and Megan are really good name brands so I would start there.

As far as a test pipe it depends. You can always put a test pipe and switch back to your cat when you plan on getting your inspection test but if your too lazy to do that then I would suggest keeping your stock cat or getting a high flow cat.

uhhh....that has nothing to do with the question you asked in the first place.
Everyone is gonna say different things about different exhaust systems...mostly because people are biased.
People say they like there HKS cause they have it...but if im not mistaken alot of HKS are not full 3" and neck down.
So basically what you want to look for is a FULL 3" turbo back exhaust all the way through with no neck downs....and its not that you shouldn't buy a test pipe (unless you want to stay legal that is) it is illegal to run a test pipe in place of your cat but you will get the most gains with the test pipe and it will also be louder...or you can get a 3" hi-flow cat.
Then when you find a couple that you like that are all full 3" then you just pick from them. Look for reviews for best quality, fitment, sound, gains etc.

U should start here The "Official" Evo Modding for Dummies it is in the newbie section. It is a sticky that will help u out. def1 was right Greddy, AMS, Buschur, and Megan are all good brands. I use the megan downpipe and cat back exaust i still use the stock cat on my evo. It was cheap and a great exaust. I am at 316whp and 311TQ right now. I plan on geting a test pipe soon though. Ur question a TBE is down pipe, test pipe, and a cat back exaust all in one. A catback exaust is just from ur stock cat to the muffler, it does not replace the down pipe or the stock cat. I would go with the TBE u will see good gains from this simple mod. Where in south CA are u?? I am in SD if ur close i could show u my setup to see how u like it. And what evo do u have??

This made the most sense to me, and I live in LA. I don't have an Evo yet, I only drive a Tahoe at the moment, but before that I had a S2000. I'm planning on buying a 9 MR soon.

buy any turbo back exhaust lol.

truthfully, i dont care about brand or whatever. if its 3 inches from the turbo back then thats all that really matters for the guy that doesnt care about looks, or sacraficing a couple HP just cause its not the one everyone else is buying.

I have an RNR. sounds great, been reliable and RNR is the brand everyone trashes on lol

Cool baller over here with that exaust!!! How did u like the s2000??? I have been thinking about geting rid of the evo for one but have not been able to bring my self to do it. I'm glad my post heled u out to. But it is all up to u man. Mod the car how u want to not what every one els wants. The mods should be things that u want not what everyone else does. Once u get the evo u will fall in love. This car is my drug for sure.
