That's because on anything less than 2.3 it's a waste of time. So far the advice you've got should give you an idea. I wouldn't go with the 40 unless you were aiming for 600+ and even then not on a 2.0.

Get a bolt on turbo like one of the IX Turbo variations (Green, white, red)

easy install, great spool up, nice top end (compared to stocker)

This is the Newbie forum (the place 4 dumb questions) , so take it easy on this guy.

+1000

people have gone over this a million times, and made plenty of power on the FP greens and now the FP reds.

Search is your best friend,
I suggest you use it. These threads that ask the same thing over and over again clog up alot of bandwidth for our site

as for you saying you searched... I doubt you did much at all. There have been people asking how to make 400hp, 500hp, etc. for years

40r on 2.0L 4G64 has been done and shown to be a less effective way to go.

37r spools up considerably faster than 40r and makes as much or more power.

You stated your goal is 450whp. The turbo 37r, 40r is way beyond your hp goal unless you're planning to stick with pump gas and crappy supporting mods.

People reach those numbers with as small as evogreen turbo.

I said it already....leave the 40 alone. Those turbos are garbadge and dont make anywhere near the power they should even with a insane bottom end to make up for the lag. If you want to reach 450, all you need is a 9 turbo or a FP Green and have a nasty set of cams with alky and call it a day. I would never use a 40 even if it was for free after seeing the comparisons on the dyno charts.

ok, well you can see how they spool on a 2.3 and how laggy it is, so that answers your question that they will spoon A LOT later than a stock turbo, learn out to interpret data.

I would not say there junk, there just kind of like a middle ground turbo that should have never been made, most people are happy with the with 30r or 35r as far as full turbo upgrades go, for the people who want more power the 40r was made as a middle ground between the 35r and 42r but the work needed to use the 40r properly is the same work needed to use the 42r properly so most people just step up to the 42r.

imagine you have a 35r, your good for ~600whp, but you want more, you spend loads of money and sacrafice a lot of spool/streetability to get a 40r and now your good for ~700whp of course your gonna feel ripped off when you could have stepped up to a 42r ~850whp-1000 (depending on variations) and played with the big boys for the same price.

now bring in the fact that we also have the T04z to consider which spools faster than the 40r and makes the same amount of power and you can really see the 40r is just not needed. the 40r was a great turbo, there is just no room for it, i just cant see where it would be a suitable application, but back when they first came out im sure they had there niche.

why not try a Schwitzer turbo of equal output - You can use a smaller unit which will give you that same power at less boost or the same boost ( depending on afew specs ) . Using a smaller turbo will give you faster spool , and having one that can flow will give you a wider power band .

Don't waste your money on a 20g....My buddy has one on his stock 2.0 evo 8 and it really doesn't impress me at all. He spend over $2k on that turbo and he regrets it all the time. He's planning on going with the HTA35R soon. Go with the EVO 9 turbo like the others were saying. GOOD upgrade from your 03 turbo and it spools VERY fast.

hey now, don't be talking bad about vtakkk, don't forget the cars that started this whole US import scene back in the day, and 90% of evo owners are ex honda owners.

I've never owned a honda, just 2 eclipse's(GST and GSX)

Go with the FPwhite, it's like a IX turbo just a better powerband and you should make decent power is you use alky or meth. But pretty much your getting the same answer's about everything so I would suggest just searching now and researching different turbo's so you stop getting flammed over little thing's. I know how you feel bro and I'm sure all of us do, we were all newb's.
