new here with couple of Qs for you guys.

Hey guys, a little background first. I have a 1gen DSM that I'm building and my DD is a 02 rsx-s that I am looking to trade for a 05 gsr ssl 29k miles ( still under warranty ). Question is it was sitting for a week and had to be jumped, the SES was on but dealer said it was because of jump start. Is that true? ( I doubt it but not sure ) Also it sounds like it has a boost leak, there will be a loud whistle when turbo starts to spool 2.5k up. The car had a aftermarket intake and the dealer had to put stock one on so I am thinking just a loose connection. Also Transfer case and PS pump were replaced. I know it was modded before, not sure on extent and if ecu was flashed. How could I check? All SSL comes with fogs and HIDs right? It was daytime so hard to tell. Had 2 very small fender benders before, only one owner, well taken care of from the looks, body looks perfect, no frame damage, lights look on spec, no uneveness, interior is great and it runs good, pulls hard, clutch feels good, one of best evo 8s I test drove ever, ( out of 5 or so ). just worried if whistling could be shaft play , But from research it just sounds normal turbo noise or loose coupling or snorkel bolt. Going to tell them to check everything again and I'm going to test drive again. Asking for $23,500

Also carfax came out good, buy back guarantee.

Any input?

Thanks

I haven't experienced any whistle with a boost leak before but I guess it's possible. It's more likely the turbo though ... you mentioned shaft play which could cause the turbine/compressor to rub the housing.

You need to ask yourself though ... if there is shaft play, what maintenance wasn't kept up that caused it and what else could it have affected?

If the noise is the turbo, I'd stay away from the car. I'd honestly stay away based on what all they've already had to fix.

I've never seen a SES from a jump ... ask the dealer what the code is.

SES light sounds like it's got a water leak on the cluster. The sound is a boost leak, the fact that its gotten drivetran work lets me know it was romped on pretty good. As for a flash, you'll have to bring a labtop and tactrix cable to see if it's flashed, but my bet is it was. 23.5 is a bit too much for that. If you can get it for pretty cheap and are willing to fix the few problems it may have now, make sure the price gets dropped. If you buy it, give me your seats. lol

Good luck, but if I were you I'd pass this one by...

I did purchase it for 24 otd. The transfer case was replaced because it started whining a little. It's still under warranty and the dealer will look into the boost leak. Really that price seems high. I usually see 05 base gsr with around same miles (27k) going for 26k. And they have been in a lot worst condition.

thanks though, always willing gain knowledge.
