1st gen DSM, put a fresh rebuilt engine in it, shep trans, all new fluids, new suspension, TBE, DSM link, 850cc injectors, walboro 255, AFPR, FMIC, Evo3 ex. mani, and a 50 trim. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $10k, and that includes the car. Ultimate sleeper.

Hes really hooked on A4s and S4s but i have a feeling that he will have a hard time with reliability with them.

We have also talked about possibly a lower millage SRT-4 but i wanted to know what you guys thought about reliability with them.

Power mods he would do is probably minor TBE intake and a tune.

Let me know what cars he should look into and which ones to stay away from

Thanks

That's an excellent suggestion, one that completely slipped my mind.

Thanks everyone for the advice i think your on to something with the GSX i didnt think about that for some reason.

I totally agree with all of you about taking out a loan and building credit. By far the smartest thing but he just doesnt agree with me on that hes scared of getting in debt.

Hes a Professional snowbaorder as am I and money can be good and can be scarce its super inconcistent. But i know he could make the payments. Some weekends we will make 20Gs and then next not make a dime. infact Lose money.

SRT-4 also interests me does anyone know about reliability?

Ive heard good and bad things never a straight forward answer.

SRT-4 has bullet proof reliability if it is stock and well treated but Good luck finding one. The engine in it is very good. I don't know about snow driving, but the later years got a limited slip diff and the first year or two didn't.

money wise it is much smarter to finance something new, its really a buyers market right now. A new SX4 will hold way more value than a used SRT-4 and its a much nicer car except for drag racing.

with 3 or 4k down and 10k in the bank he can make payments for a long, long time even with no income. get a long term like 60-70 months and the payment will be low, inflation is high right now so that will offset alot of the interest. Also, a ton of people are stuck in big gas guzzlers right now and will continue to dump them over the next few years. They will be looking for cars like the sx4 so demand for used ones should remain strong. If he hits a dry spell and needs to sell he will be able to sell easily. An srt-4 is more of a niche car.

Srt is a POS. owned a srt-8 before, i couldnt even be happy with that, cant imagine being happy with smaller srt. and we all know how the reliability is when it comes to an AMERICAN made car.

2002-2004 Subaru Impreza WRX or 2003-2005 SRT-4 (Front Wheel)

Stay away from Audi's. I had one and the maintenance is horrible.

My girlfriend has an SRT- 4 with big turbo, fuel upgrades and such and we have not had one problem with it. It is front wheel drive but with snow tires it will plow through. Cheap to mod and a big bang for the buck.

He may be able to find an AWD Impreza WRX, great car IMO.
My bro looked at one yesterday, 2004 had 30,000 miles, dealer wanted 15k for it.

Problem with the Suzuki is the resale is horrible. Those cars are worth nothing in a few years. If he can cope with that, or just doesn't care, then yes it's a good option.

I think this is a common problem among American cars. Suzuki belongs to GM now, correct me if Im wrong.
