Friend needs a new car
So i wanted to know what your guys opinion's were on this.
I have a friend/roomate. Thats in the market for a new car. he has $18,000 in his bank account and would only like to spend 15 of it. He drives alot in the snow so it has to be AWD or front wheel doesn't matter which one because he will run good snowtires and chains if it gets bad enough.
Doesnt wana take out a loan and wants something sporty with some power.
Hes really hooked on A4s and S4s but i have a feeling that he will have a hard time with reliability with them.
We have also talked about possibly a lower millage SRT-4 but i wanted to know what you guys thought about reliability with them.
Power mods he would do is probably minor TBE intake and a tune.
Let me know what cars he should look into and which ones to stay away from
Thanks

I'd look at a SRT-4 if the EVO isn't an option.
The SRT-4's impressed me alot!
Maybee the new Colbalt SS Turbocharged? I'm not much of a Chevy guy, but its better than a VW Rabbit! :P

The Cobalt SS is ~20K after a discount. A $15K SRT-4 will eventually need repairs that don't seem like they fit into a finite budget, which goes against the concept of price sensitivity. Power, reliability and low cost don't exactly follow each other. If the guy is as frugal as it sounds, a factory warranty should be a priority.
I can't believe folks actually recommended a $15K used Evo.

Srt-4 is out of the question if he wants AWD like you post says. $15k down on an $18k evo would make his payment ... umm what $70 a month? lol not only that but improve his credit. What he is going to do is settle from something that he is so close to being able to afford. Tell him to ditch the skirt and heels and go evo shopping!!!
In all honesty, tell him to look at the Suzuki SX4. It's got AWD, and it's a tremendous value. Why buy a used car where reliability is questionable, when you can buy a new car? Plus, he should consider things like insurance and gas.

Availability isn't the issue, but reliability is. A $15K Evo is a POS. At least he could say that he owns an Evo, whether it runs or not.
