Will Evo X Survive My Driving Life...
Another way to think of it, roughly 23 days of school per month. That's 2300 miles. To make it simple, we'll just say that Evo will get 23mpg (which you'd be lucky if you do...), so that's 100 gallons. At the currently price of about $4.50, that's $450 a month just going to school. You might was well rent an apartment next to school, save yourself $450 in gas a month, and 3 hours a day x 23 days, ~70 hours a month! I could do a LOT with 70 hours a month.... And that's strictly looking at gas costs, no maintaince....
I would get rid of the GTI, buy a i don't give a $h!t to park on the street that gets 30+ MPG. Keep the RX-7 wait till you graduate then buy and evo, otherwise your pissing away your money. It isn't my place to tell you what to do but you would be smarter to wait to get an evo or... buy a use Evo 8 and have all the fun you want with a reliable fun fast car. I just don't think a new X is the way to go. There are a few guys on here running 35r's and getting 30+ MPG pushing 500+ horsepower on low 10 second DD cars.
Just my $0.02
STevo
P.S. i am a little bias about the Evo 8... haha

I have an Evo 8 that I use as my daily driver and my work is pretty far away...probably spend 2 hrs or more just driving to and from my work everyday. I have also been checking out the Evo X and selling my 8.
I think that having an Evo X would be an easier daily driver car compared to an 8 because it's a more comfortable ride. If you've got the money to burn on using that car as a serious daily driver then go for it. But I would hate to rack on that many miles on that car. Good luck with your decision!

i put 130k on my 8 before selling it
and currently have 17k on my x (in less than 6 months)
i spend around $500 a month on gas (since gas prices fluctuate)
get an oil change about once ever 4 or 5 weeks depending ($60)
change dif/tranny fluids between 10-12k miles (every 3-4 months)
and dont mind it one bit. i got a car i wanted to drive and i drive it.
also, without any factory reflashes i get about 22-25mpg on my drive to and from work (some city, some freeway driving)

I think MR would be a great daily driver. And if you get 100K mile extended warranty, you'll be worry free for 3 years. Let's all hope that the gas price stays below $10 a gallon in next few years.
Do it! My DSM had 162k hard miles on it before the engine finally let go; and that was a 1994 and I'm sure reliability and durability have improved in the past 15 years (except for the 2G DSM)
As long as you're driving so much every day you might as well enjoy the trip no matter what weather conditions come your way.
