M3 or Evo X Need help plz advice
??? c'mon.. not really an apples to apples comparison. You might consider a base Corvette coupe for 0 percent interest at $40k-ish with discounts. This is halfway between evoX and E92 pricing....
but an evo to new v8 M3? This was a rhetorical question, right?

Come on, he set his mind on picking one of two cars, and it just so happens that the two cars are significantly different...but that doesn't necessarily mean they shouldn't be compared or argued over.
Before getting the Evo, this was honestly the choice I had to make: Evo or Prius? Totally different, but I had reasoning behind getting either one. And the reasoning is obvious, and I'm pretty sure all of you know what the reasoning is without me having to explain it to you.
But anyway, he's asking for our opinions, but why, you ask? Most likely because we own one of the two cars he's deciding from. I'm sure he has the same thread up on the bimmer forums.
And my point here is: in the end, we can't/aren't really deciding FOR him, but rather we are assisting him make a decision of his own, by subtly informing him about the pros/cons of our car.
Here is an honest comparison
M3 = Bank account----Evo X = Wallet
M3 = Faster than the X-----Evo X = Quick and nimble
My verdict since you arent pressed for cash. Find an Evo 8 MR (yeah iknow they are hard to find) and be a true baller :P. Or try and get someone near LA that has a Evo 6 TME, yes they are out there.

What's up with everyone and the "it has to be apples to apples!"

^^ most noble thing ive ever read here
I agree with 628, I don't see why some people are so critical! That being said I love my Evo, but that M3 would open all kinds of doors or maybe i'm thinking legs! haha! If only I could afford the M3! But I would still keep the Evo too, and not trade it for anything.
That's a hard decision to make-almost makes me glad I don't have that much money to put on a car!

thats a hard decision. it all depends on why you want the car. if you want a car that is a chick magnet and isan't a issue then i say go with the bimmer. especially if your not really looking to mod your car. but if your looking for a great tuning platform that generates great horsepower without having to sell your house to do it then go with a evo. you really cant go wrong with either car.
M3 Sedan > Evo X > M3 Coupe
In my personal opinion the 3 series coupes all look like ****... Especially since, last I checked, they were all MORE expensive than their sedan counterparts. Then again, I like the looks of the new STi... So...
Between an Evo X and an M3 Coupe. I'd get the X, spend a bit on mods, and then save/invest/etc the rest. If I had 60k waiting to be spent on a car, I'd have a 996 TT.

Again it is really a personal preference. You can easily spend around $2k on the evo and have equal, if not better performance than the m3 if price/performance are your main concern. If you want a very nice interior then get an Audi RS4 which can be had for the mid 50's slightly used. If you want a track car then get a GTR which seems to be a monster on the track.
If all these things are important to you, other than budget then get a M3. It is the best all around car out there. Which is what it was designed to be. For me personally I could care less about the interior. And also have no interest in the badge itself. So I chose the evo, it is definitely not half the car, but it is half the price (btw those comparing mr prices to the m3 prices keep in mind for that transmission on the m3 is an extra $3000, and also don't forget gas guzzler's tax).
