shifter bushing install question

I just got done installing my shifter cable bushings that I got from Buschur. These are the ones located under the hood and it's for the 5 speed. The install went fine and took about 30 mins. After the install I took the car out for a drive and I notice the shifter was super hard to get into gears especially 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Almost feels like 3rd gear locks out. When the shifter is in the netural position and you move it to the left like you where going to go into 1st it will stay in that position and does not bounce back into the netural position like it normally does. Same thing happens when you move shifter to the right and let go (not in gear) shifter stays there and does not move back to center position. Is this normal or did I do something wrong?

i always wanted to know about that too man. For some reason when i accelerate and let off the gas my shift make a violent pull back outa 1st like when its in first i can feel it move with acceleration. is that normal?

To awnser your question man, its suppose to be a smoother feel when shifting, it should be softer. Try taking them out and reinstalling them again, you may have switched the sides around or have them upsidedown.

The shifts might seem harder due to the harder shifter bushing. I wouldnt exactly say it makes the shifts softer, maybe more controlled. You need to get use to the stiffer cable pull now.

As for the shifter itself not moving back after moving it sideways in neutral, that is odd and I can say after my install and up to now I have not experienced anything like that.

Did you buy the car used? What the mileage on it? Have you been maintaining your drivetrain fluids?

car was shifting fine right before bushing install, milage on car is roughly 50,000, drivetrain fluids checked. I'm going to redo the install and see what happens. Thanks for the response guys.

Make sure you grease the bushings and also make sure you put them in the correct places (they are different sizes I think). You also may need to lightly sand the corrosion out of the inside of the cable bracket things.
