Tie Bars
Tie Bars
I was reading up on some downpipe fitment issues and I've read that some people just removed the tie bars altogether. Are the tie bars really needed and what is their purpose? Thanks EvoM.
If they were not needed why would Mitsu have them there in the first place.
Any thing that stiffens up the frame/chassis is a component you want to keep not get rid of.
If you are having downpipe fitment issues there are solutions for that.

I have a Perrin DP and i just stacked 3 washers under the tie bars and that made enough clearance for me.
It would be my best guess as a mechanical engineer that Mitsu added the tie bars to add stiffness to the chassis to improve handling response. They are a link between the suspension mounting areas just like the strut tower bar.
Your car is not going to fall apart if you take them off, it just wont perform as well in the corners.

More Info!RMR Lower Arm Brace - Lancer EVO
The RMR Lower Control Arm Brace is a replacement for the 2 weak factory bars that spread across the front lower sub frame. Mitsubishi put braces there to help with handling under acceleration as the sub frame tends to spread. Our brace is stronger then the factory units giving more control and le...

Is there anyway that adding the washers could somehow compromise the handling of the car?
Also, must all three bolts on the should have the same amount of washers on them, correct?
