First time buyer: Modded or Stock?

First off, sorry if this is a repost or a beaten to death topic. I have searched and came up with nothing. If it is, before I get the smack can you hook me up with links?

Hi everyone!
As you can see (join date) I have been lurking in the Evo world for a while, but the time has finally come for one to be mine! I have been watching several in the for sale forum.

Stock, engine wise I LOVE THIS ONE but I got to have a sunroof
Modded

I want to mod mine and want some good power (350 +) but it will be a dd. I have never owned a turboed car and as a matter of fact I have never driven an Evo (looking for one locally to test drive is proving to be a hard task). So should I dive in where someone has left off or should I do all the work myself? The cost of getting the power I want will take me quite a while. Most modded cars are selling for around, below KBB. So their loss is my gain, right? But the comfort of a stock engine is humbling also. I do want the car to last as long as possible (obvious). Also I do have some wrenching experience and 2 buds that are very experienced with turboed cars, so modding myself won't be a problem, just don't want the car to be down for long.

oooohhh, what to do!?

I know this is a personal preference but just want to hear what the experienced have to say. Do you regret buying one or the other?

Get as stock as possible.

Do your own mods.

Do your own mods. I wouldn't exactly say you have more piece of mind if a mod you installed goes bad, but it leaves out any questions of what somebody else did. Yes, it's more expensive, but you get a little bit more satisfaction out of your own build. Try to find as close to stock as possible. Body mods are one thing, like the one with the JDM bumper and advans and suspension done. It gives you a little bit more creativity though to do the build yourself and decide exactly the route you are going to take.

I have to say i was hell bent on buying a stock car, which i did for the most part. If you do your research and know which mods are preferred and if the car was tune by someone reputable you can get a HELL of a deal on modded car. It really depends what you want to do with the car, if you are going to mod it anyway you can save a TON of money buying a car used with the mods you are looking for. I would do a lot of research but i say if you are going to mod the car, you might as well buy one with the mods you are looking for if you can find it.

Try to go stock, that way you build the car and the engine hasnt been pushed over the limits

I would agree with everyone. Buy as stock as possible. However, if its from some one on here I would definitely feel somewhat better about it being modded. Theres more of a chance they actually new what they were doing or have asked some questions about it, AND theyll beable to answer your questions better. What ever you do, DONT buy modded from a stealership! BIG BIG NO NO!

Thanks for the feedback. I have always been leaning towards the stocker, but its just so tempting to pick one up with all that power, ready to go. I'd really really like to find one with a transferable warranty.

Try to go with a stock Evo if possible, but its its just basic bolt-ons, like piping and an exhaust, I don't see too much harm in that.

But a reputable mechanic that can check out the car is your best bet.

My friend is a mechanic and he looked over my car before I bought it. I have no regrets. =)

Buy as stock as possible or 100% stock, if there is any left.

If a car has been modded with quality parts you like and would buy yourself, and tuned professionally, why NOT take that for the same price as a stock evo? The money you spend on exhaust and every other bolt on could be spend on a built block/turbo kit/ etc. With buying anything used, pay close attention to WHO you are buying the car from and how well they maintained it, regardless if it is modded at all or plain stock.
