As of right now i have the choice to either buy an 03 Evo 8 with 36k Miles on it for 20,000. But i was wondering if it would be better to just let the winter pass save some money and then go with the Evo 9?

From what i understand a lot of people seem to say just to go with the 8 but i can not make my decision so im just looking for some opinions.

 

If you are going to buy an 8, get an 05. If you can afford a 9, get that.

 

^ +1. If I am not mistaken, 03's didn't have the ACD, which is pretty neat IMO. I think you should get the 9. Mivec is always good, and you have the last version of the 4G63 engine

 

drove both. I personally like the 8 better, so I bought an 8. If I were you I would get the 8 and save some money for buschur mods

 

03 & 04 = no ACD, no front LSD, HIDs
04 RS = no ACD, helical front LSD, no HIDs
05 = ACD, helical front LSD, HIDs optional w/SSL

 

Get a 9 if you can, probably lower miles than the 8.

Mivec is a great thing to have if you don't plan to mod the hell out of your car. Just some bolts-on with cams will already be as fast as cammed evo8.

 

Yes if your getting an 8, go with the 2005 it has the ACD. 03-04's did not come with a front limited slip diff unless its an RS I believe.
I had the same problem and I ended up getting the 8 cause a great deal was there. Now everytime I see a 9, I want that instead. I would trade my 8 for a 9 anyday.

 

deffy get a 9... you can do more with MIVEC and it looks "better" compare to the 8... no offense to all of you 8 owners

 

From what some friends are saying they say that the Mivec is actually a ***** to tune and that their are faster Evo 8's then their are 9's mod for mod. I also do like the look of the 9 but the 05 8's seems like what im leaning towards since it will probably be a few thousand cheaper.

 

It's real when Mivec first come out, many tuners did struggle to tune Mivec, but not now anymore.

 

theres so many more reasons to buy a 9 than a 8. interior is nicer, problems with the 8's are weaved out with the 9's, MIVEC, much better power with mods, newer, etc etc etc.

If you are patient you can find a 9 for a few grand more than a 8

 

it depends. i got an evo 8 and i kinda wish i waited for a 9. but since i plan on upgrading turbo and cams later it wont even matter in the future. but if u dont go that far into modding wait for a 9
