Thumbs up Found an Evo. Lots of pics.. Your opinion?

After doing a LOT of searching on autotrader.com and cars.com I ran across this Evo. This one is located about 100 miles from me, this is why I haven't went to test drive/check it out yet. I emailed the dealership and requested some photos. They were very quick with their response. Would you suppose this Evo has been beat all to hell?

Here is everything I know about this car, included is some pictures the dealership emailed me.

Bodystyle: 4 door Sedan
Engine: 2.0L I-4cyl
Transmission: Manual
Ext. Color: Blue By You
Int. Color: Black
Mileage: 65,992
Stock Number: B82071A
VIN: JA3AH86F23U120241
Model Code: LE41-B (Whats this mean?)

Now I am assuming this is an Evo 8? I am new to the Evo scene so please don't laugh. Haha.

ok.. a few things..

It is an evo 8 like u thought. I am not a fan of the wheels.
-That hood is very odd.(it also looks like its in poor shape)
-small wing sucks. go big wing or no wing.
-wierd fog lights (get rid of them) the car already has factory fog lights.
-Gauge pods on steering wheel are aftermarket
-it has an exhaust, not sure what kind
-Tailights are still the ricey clear style. get rid of those.

other than that... not to bad

also whats the price?? for an 03 evo 8 with 65k im gonna say 18k ish

I agree with some of the stuff you guys have mentioned.

The wing, yes, i agree, needs to be swapped for a big one.
The tails, a little tinting to them, and you're set.
The fogs, yea.. agreed. hah.
The CF hood, yeah it looks a little rough. But hell, maybe I could just talk them down a little.

They're asking $17,899.

Anyone know who owned it on the forums?

Here's other things that haven't been pointed out. 1. It's an 03 Evo, I hate to say it but I would avoid an 03 Evo simply because of the dreaded PO300 code error. Heck I even have one and I am telling you not to get an 03 Evo.

2nd. Those rims for this type of car are garbage. They will bend very easily, So keep in mind that although you think they look cool. If they aren't already bent they will bend. Not to mention those wheels look very heavy and will definitely put added strain on the transmission, drive train and overall launch ability of the car.

3rd. Aside of the fact that the carbon fiber hood doesn't look good since it's already cracked and faded. It isn't very functional it won't dissipate heat as effective as the original one and I'm sure it probably wiggles at high speeds.

4th. That wing is hideous but I'm sure you already knew that.

5th. Notice that the Rotors have been swapped, Although you think the slotted look is cool, It's been proven over and over that slotted will eventually crack. Get slotted they look just as cool and are much more durable and functional.

6th. The Gauge has been slightly upgraded, That mod is very easy to do, I even had it done but by the color choices, I would say the previous owner was a teenager since it looks a bit riced out. This is only important because you have to try to gauge the type of driver the previous owner was. I would say he definitely raced in it trying to show off to his friends.

7th. This is the Blue by you color. I don't know if you're aware but this is the least desired color out of all the Evo's. The Electric Blue was just so amazing it because the new blue for all blue desired evo owners. Given this information chances are this car has sat on this lot for a while. Hence the actual value of the car is lower than any other evo of a diff color.

If you are set on still buying this I would push for a 16K dollar price tag. All of this because of the lack of 700$ wing, the lack of decent Rims and tires, the lack of an expensive stock aluminum hood, the lack of longevity rotors and finally the pain you'll be going through dealing with that dreaded P0300 code. Oh and this car has a lot of miles too.

Where did you find your research that "proves" slotted rotors will crack? I've seen cracked cheap drilled rotors. Have not seen any cracked slotted rotors. I'm guessing you mean the drilled rotors may crack and to get slotted rotors instead, right?

Back on topic. $16k is the most I'd pay for that assuming it's mechanically sound. Mods look on the cheapy side. I would assume if the previous owner wouldn't pay to get better quality mods then the old owner wouldn't have spent the money on proper maintenance. Car has over 60k miles. Check to see if there is any record of the 60k maintenance; timing belt, water pump, etc. At 60k miles, the tranny, t-case and rear diff. fluid should have been changed out at least twice already. I would make the 100 mile trip to take a closer look at the car. Look the frame over, check for leaks, look under the weather seals to see if the paint matches the rest of the car, etc. Ask for a free Carfax report, even though it may not have a record of all accidents if any. The report does tell you all the different places the car has been registered and whatnot.
