Which Evo to buy??

Hello all, I am by no means new hear but I think this is were this thread should be. Anyways quick back story, I used to own an 03 Evo about 4 years ago. I had some problems with it and decided to trade up to an 06 STI. I liked the STI alot but it wasn't as much fun as the Evo and I wanted to get a IX so I sold the STI and got a bike. Two years later I am looking to get into an Evo again.

That being said I am looking for an Evo IX.

So far I only looked at one which is about 10 miles from me. It is a IX MR SE in silver w/11K miles asking price of $28K. I looked it over head to toe and it is immaculate. No mods on it as of now, clean body runs strong. Took it for a test ride and it felt great. It is the best price within 100 miles of me by far. The only thing I am not to fond of is that it is silver. My least favorite MR color.

There are a couple of other dealers with IX MR's with 20K - 30K miles asking $30K for non SE models which I am asking to quote me a better price on.

I also found a black SE with 30K miles asking for $23,5K.

I guess I am really just looking for thoughts on price and should I go with an MR or not. The car will mostly just be a DD with hopefully a little track time in the far future. One thing that aggrevated me about my 03 Evo was that I always felt I had to downshift to get power, would the 6 speed have a better power band for daily driving?

Thanks

Okay I found this on the carfax of the IX MR SE w/11K miles for $28K

According to carfax it was in a front or side impact with another vehicle, clean title otherwise the cafax is clean.

Any thoughts on this?

Ehh...I dunno. I have always hated buying a car that I know has been in an accident. Only owned my old wrx for 4 months because I found some DA marks and blended paint on the side door. If you are spending that much on a car, it should have no accidents. maybe work em down because of that??? As far as pricing goes, I bought my MR with 40k on it for 26k after working the dealer for a few hours. They were asking 28k. My car is pretty immaculate too. I honestly haven't driven a 5 speed Evo so I'm not the one to compare, but I love the six speed. Gearing is real nice around town...besides having to shift another gear, but that's the fun of things! I rarely have to downshift to pass or go uphills. Power is always there. Hope this helps.

No, I hear what you are saying, paying for a car that has been in an accident. I didnt notice it when I was there so the work was good. I will take a close look this weekend when I check it out again.

I was able to find a IX MR in red for $26K but it has 50k miles on it so I am not sure and it is a little to far just to go and check it. I would love to have one in red though. Can't say I have ever seen a red MR on the street.

Yeah I definetly want HID's so it has to be at least an SSL or SE, I have been hearing that the MR tranny isnt as strong, but I don't really see myself doing any mods anytime soon, or at most just an exhaust and a flash.

I know it sounds stupid, but knowing there is a higher end model and not having it would eat at me somewhat. Part of me would always want an MR, but on the other hand I don't want to have to worry about the tranny. This one still would have a good bit of warranty left.

Go with the SE. I love mine. It's the best of all the trims in one. Unless you want to be hardcore and try to strip it to loose weight then try to find an RS.

Yeah I am liking the SE, the only difference between the IX MR SE and the IX SE is the transmission right? Does the IX SE have the bilsteins? I am sure I could save a good chunk on just getting the IX SE.

No it doesn't have the bilsteins. You're getting the Black Alcantra Seat w/Red Stitching, Aluminum Roof, HIDs, and BBS Black Diamond Wheels.

Thanks, and no cheap looking Mitsu gauges although something is better than nothing. I also see that some guys have swapped from their 6 spd to a 5 spd. oh decisions decisions.

MR for the DD. Tranny problems are for people who going to race it everyday or launch alot in DD.

I'm about to buy an Evo and I've decided to get an MR SE or MR just because I want DD and not abuse it.
