Stock Block and Head Evo 8/ Introduction

I am looking at purchasing an evo 8. I know this is a noob question, hence why i put it in the noob section. Before i get to the question though, i would like to point out im not a total idiot. I have completely built from the ground up a honda prelude, 2 Honda Civics (b16a high compression, Ls/vtec high compression with spray), 1 Integra (GSR High Compression), and one S13 Silvia With a built SR20det.

I learned a good deal from the sr20det about Turbo setups, But not as much as i would like to. I wasnt the main builder in that setup i was just the extra hand. Now onto my question.

How much Hp Will the stock block and head of an evo 8 hold safely with a moderate tune. And how much Psi can the stock turbo push safely?

Thanks for the help. -Ianx

Depends on your setup really and octane and so forth.

With a gt35r setup with every bolt on imaginable you can even see power near the 500whp mark for a safety margin you probably should consider building a motor over 450whp. See Mellon's car for reference to 500whp stock block.

If you plan on pushing the stock turbo to the limit it better not be on pump gas too risky IMHO. The compressor map shows anything outside of the 26psi mark seems to be well into the bad efficiency mark.

Whats you basic goal for the car? With that a recommended part list can be started.

We ran the stock motor to 40 psi and went 10.0 at 142. I don't think its safe doing this, But at least we know it can.... It did finally blow up as well but it wasn't from to much power.

I was hoping for around 500 whp after all bolt ons, with a new turbo manifold and turbo obviously.

Thats really pushing the stock block if you want it reliable i definitely say get the bottom end at the very least built up a little with drop in pistons and rods. The rest could potentially stay stock and meet your goals.

Does the block have to be sleeved for this amount of power?

No. I'm doing the same thing I've seen plenty of evo's pushing 500whp mark stock block My setup is Hta35r with all supporting mods, Stock block ,Ecu,Head,Intake Mani,TB. Don't know how reliable It will be guess I will see.

No not even the aluminum block on the evo 10 needs it for 500whp.

The iron block of the 4g63 is known to handle even 1000whp without problems. Just don't over bore it thats about the only recommendation. Hell the stock crank handles 1000whp without issues. Its just those tiny rods and the pistons tend to crack if you get any detonation thats why people switch over to forged parts.

If your sticking with pump gas i recommend the hta gt35r for a 500whp goal. Race gas will get you there with a smaller turbo like the fp red possibly or a 30r equivalent.

There are probably a lot of combinations to get you to 500whp its going to be a decision about your choice of parts, tuning shops, etc.
