I really don't see why not. I haven't done any research on the topic, but it should bolt right on. You will just have to make sure that you have the mivec cams as well as a mivec ECU...unless you can have your ECU tuned like a mivec?? Someone else may be able to fill you in better.

From past posts it needs an oil passage drilled, a wiring harness installed form the evo 9, evo 9 ecu, and a prayer from god you don't screw it up.

I'm pretty sure the pin outs on the harness are different. it would take so much work to redo one up.

so you're saying all the plugs between the evo 8 and 9 ECU are different? I've done an entire subaru wiring swap. changing the pin out of some plugs wouldn't be too hard to do if that's all it is. then just add the MIVEC wires and route them to the engine bay. done

hopefully lol
i'm gonna hit up Chris (hanahawaiin) for the wiring diagrams and take a peek this weekend

if that doesn't seem possible I could just run a standalone and wire in the MIVEC to where it's needed

not impossible, but not really worth any benefit either....
too much work for too little horsepower.

alright, well that rules out using MIVEC on the stock harness with a 9 ECU

now, how about running MIVEC with a standalone and not touching the 8 harness?

+1 Mitsubishi's Mivec is not like Hondas Vtec. Mivec is there for lowend response. With a turbocharge application, variable valve timing gets in the way of making power. Look into sr20dets, the one with VTC is not favored. Also, Supra Turbo motors, when they get into building high horsepower they delete their variable timing functions.

That could be true ...but look at all of the high powered Evos here in the US. How many of them are factory born IX that have taken out Mivec for the sake of making God-like power?!!
