Which one should I buy 06 MR or 06 SE?

I am in the market for an Evo 9 and I can't make up may mind 5 speed or 6 speed? It's not going to be may DD and I am going to do mods for sure. I would like to be in the 400-450whp range. I also dont want to be screamin at high rpm's in 5th on the highway (like my turboed honda). Are the 5 speed trannies like that in a Evo 9 SE? Thanks to all who reply.

Theres not much difference on the highway between 5spd vs 6spd. I say go for 5spd.

Big power is not a problem on an MR really, it just depends what you'll be doing with it. Are you going to be road racing? We need more information really, but everyone is going to be biased based on what they already have. I do love my MR SE and wouldnt trade it for a 5 speed. I'm pretty sure its going to be vice versa for the SE owners.

I have an MR and love it! If your plan is to build a beast and run it hard you should consider the SE. The 5 speed has proven to be a bit more stout in extremely harsh applications. 1st through 3rd in the six speed are pratically bulletproof, but every time I really start tearing into it I hear a little voice telling me to be kind to 4th 5th and 6th.

Get the one thats the best deal/price/budget. 5spd or 6spd. I prefer the 6spd tho..never had a problem roadracing it.

Funny thing is that the stickers showed the 5spd getting better gas milage than a 6sp.

SE, regardless of if the 6sp 'seems' to be holding up, it is inherently a weaker design. Especially, if its not a DD, go for the 5sp and dont look back.

Youre on crack if you really think the SE is stronger. They have same exact engine as a regular evo same turbo same everything comparing to an evo 9 so i dont know where you get that stupid fact from.

To the OP. Get the Se instead of the Mr. I have an Mr myself and my car made 400whp and the 6 speed at that power level will not hold it for long which is why I had to spend lots of money to get a swap. The 5 speed on the other hand is much stronger and on the highway theyre both gonna be pretty much the same.
