As far as crashing it into a ditch, each crash is different. I think it really depends more on the crash (how fast, what you hit, the angle, etc) than the car itself.

Personally you could go on and on for days for it. If you want a comfy daily driver then get the sti. If you want something a little more race oriented then the evo is your answer.

I agree but would never say the 04 sti is "comfy" but yes if you want anything other than all out performance get the sti. If your looking to become a track fiend then get the evo.

I find it interesting when people are mentioning that there evo has 450+hp and then mentions the STI as a daily driver. Who really dailies a 450+hp evo for more than a year? I understand the point of this thread just seems like it would wise to advise the thread starter to determine their goals for the car before seeking advice. Like many said plan out if you just want bolt-ons or if you want a high horsepower car.

I was actually in the same situation as you. But I was looking at an 07 STi. And eventually bought an Evo. I owned an 03 WRX and was plenty happy with it. But I do admit that making the jump from WRX to Evo/STi was huge. The power difference and handling between the WRX to the Evo/STi is immense and you'll immediately see the difference.

Now, when you're comparing both of them, both are equally great cars hands down. The STi looks more like a civilized man's car, while the Evo has race car all over it. I personally think the STi has better color choices that really make the cars stand out. But the overall design of the car is a little boring compared to the Evo's race-car looks, but that's a manner of personal opinion.

The STi handles great and you can take a medium sharp corner at 40 MPH and you'll glide like butter. As with the Evo, you can put it where you want to put it. It's a lot more responsive and handles a little better than the STi. But STi's flaws are tiny, they're both very similar, it's just a manner of which you think looks better. I chose the Evo because I wanted to experience something new and different and gain experience in modding a traditional inline 4 engine rather than flat 4s.

Good luck!

just as they said. Sti better for a daily, evo better for everything else... or even better would be an evo for a daily!!! I did love my 05 wrx i will admit. If you like working on your car i would get the evo, it took me hours to do an exhaust on my wrx, not to mention its a 4 hour job to do your spark plugs.

very good point, evos are SOOO easy to work on compared to subies!!! its not a 4 hour job but its a good hour job to just change the spark plugs, not to mention the top mount intercooler you have to take off to do anything. my buddy has an sti and in a week he did 2 launches and broke something both times, once blew out a gear, and second broke a bolt on the alternator so lost all belts

and ya, evo vs sti, EVO WINS hands down, there great cars love em both, just that the evo is a sexy beast and the sti is not as sexy or as much of a beast. evo is way better in my opinion, EVOS FTMFW

I agree with this. The flat-four engine configuration makes access to the engine much harder than the Evo. The only thing easier on the Subie is changing the timing belt. Doing a valve adjustment on the subie takes a lot of time and patience and the plumbing is annoying as *ell taking it apart and putting it back together again.

With that said I think that Subies are tough and can take a lot of abuse. Evos are tough too but that darn stock clutch is wimpy..

Turbo spool up on the Evo8/9 is just awesome considering how close it is mounted to the engine. On the boxer (subie) configuration there is more turbo lag because the turbo is mounted much farther from the engine so bigger turbo upgrades on the subie = much more lag than the Evo.

here is what I can tell you...

sti is a great car if you plan on doing bolt on mods ONLY...330whp is about the most you'll see on the stock turbo unless you throw meth into the equation

sti does have a stout tranny...evo trannies aren't bad but the stock clutch isn't the best

evo doesn't have a dccd so the power output is constant but it gets the job done

evo will dominate an sti in every category

sti IMO is a better dd if you keep the mods light (with a tbe the sound of the boxer engine is amazing)

that's about it...bottom line

get an evo or you'll be unhappy
good testimonial.
